I would add the year to the date and include the length of the exhibition.

Further to Gary's point the flyer doesn't actually say this is an exhibition, only an artist reception.

While this is obviously an exhibition to us it might not be to the general public, and the start & finish dates are vital.

If the flyer is just for the reception it still needs the information for people who might not be able to make that particular evening, but still wish to see your work.

Hi Chris,

Here is a list of things that will help you think more about better ways to market yourself. I recently started marketing myself, and I have listed some of the things I learned below. Please don't take tehm personally, but just as a list of the types of things that you should think about when you market yourself.

1- Branding: Is the flyer consistent with your brand? Is it consistent with the gallery's brand? (fonts/logos/etc.) If you havn't thought about branding yet, look to other successful companies and photographer, and model what you do off them. For example, sanserif fonts are very popular now. They are seen as clean, modern and sophisticated. Cursive fonts should be avoided in most cases. They can sometimes be used successfully, but most often look amaturish.

2- Website: Your website needs to be on the flyer. The gallery's website needs to be on the flyer. Also, the picture on the flyer should be the first thing you see on your home page.

3- Various: I think you should remove your name from the line "For more information call . . . " and just have your phone number. It is better that people have an perception that you are so succesfull that you have someone else handle your calls. Your name might be better at the top, with the gallery's name under your picture. Also I think you should remove "Fine Art Photographer" from under you name, and leave it as "Photographer." My belief is that you are showing at a gallery so you are obviously an artist. Saying "fine art phot . . ." is like you compensating for something.

Actually I have taken alot of these things into consideration.

As far as branding is concerned I have just started using all the same fonts and "Logos." My business cards, letterheads, flyer's and my website (which I am currently retooling) are all designed the same. I decided to label myself as "Fine Art Photographer" when designing my business card in order to avoid the 30 phone calls a week regarding weddings.

I like the idea of being important enough to have someone take care of things for me. Fake it till you make it, right.
