OK, I'm not sure which forum to use for bragging, but it's about black and white prints, and if I don't tell somebody, I'll burst!

In the last two weeks, I've done my first serious B&W printing since circa 1980. I mounted and framed two prints in elegant classic style and entered them in a "Photography Only" show at a local art club I belong to. Dropped 'em off Thursday afternoon. Friday, got a phone call. "You won Best of Show. The judge wanted to give your other print a landscape award, but we don't allow two monetary awards to one artist, so he gave that one an Honorable Mention."

I think I'm still a little bit in shock, but I have the certificate (and a check!) in hand from today's award ceremony, it must be true. There were 101 entries of all sorts of diverse work (and photo media), I'm guessing the judge likes good old gelatin silver.

The attached scans are from 5x5 inch test prints; the final prints were 11x11 minus a bit of trimming. Best of Show, Up! is brown toned Ilford MG warmtone; the other, Mackerel Sky is Ilford MG neutral, selenium toned.

Anyway, if I didn't tell you you wouldn't know, and I sure feel welcomed back to this arcane art! :D Thanks for having all this luscious info on the web.

Carry on whilst I float around,

DaveT, feeling good
