I often get floating things in my devs. Someone on another forum called them "snots"; as good a name as any.
This occurs in devs that I keep around for some time like Thornton's 2 bath and Diafine. I take it that these are living organisms? I filter often, but can these critters change the effectivenss of a dev or the pH? I mix with distilled water.

I have never experienced this.

I have never experienced this either.

I've had these in both Diafine and BTTB, as well as XTOL. Never filtered and never had any problems with it.

Any alkaline bath can grow these critters. An inviting medium and bits of emulsion to eat. When it occurs in developers your options are lessened. Adding a small amount of classic Listerine might help with Diafine bath B.

I don't think it's an organic growth.
I get this problem with Xtol and me too I'm using distilled water.
And, coincidence, the problem arises only with powder developers.
Maybe some kind of sequestring agent that can't do his job with distilled water, clumps and forms these floaters?

Do you get them using tap water?

It's suppose it's possible for this to happen with the pwder devs, IDK. I've always mixed the T2B and Diafine with distilled. Other devs I mix with tap water as I will go thru them quickly.
