Hi, I have a Yashica LM which I would like to use a flashgun with, a bulb-based one believe it or not. So I have a few questions:
- I have a (non-functional)Tilt-A-Mite which can be used with AG1 and M3 bulbs (and I'm guessing M2 etc). Can anyone recommend another TLR-friendly gun which could use those sizes?

- I also have a stash of #5/#25 bulbs. Can you recommend a gun to use this size? (I also have read that you can get adapters so you could in theory use 5/25, AG1, and M2/M3 bulbs in the same gun?)

- Are there any electronic flash guns which would work which have a 'vintage' look?

Thanks!

I have a Tilt-a-Mite and I'm thinking it also takes #5/25 bulbs. (I'm not at a place where I can look at the moment.) Barring physically damaged or corroded electrical parts, its capacitor is likely shot. The (15v) battery it used was still made when I looked a couple of years back, but not easy to find. It might be possible to salvage a unit with some "modern" parts that would be out of sight.

There were other simple flashguns back in th 50s and 60s, that might still be found, but many were some weird mount specific to one camera. (Argus C3 and Brownie Hawkeye come to mind.)

Funny I just read this seconds after buying this:

and this

My Tilt-A-Mite didn't even come with a capacitor

Turns out you were correct, so the answer to my question is the Tilt-A-Mite I already have, it takes Ag-1, M2/M3, #5/25, and any other bulbs with those 3 base sizes. I'll just need to experiment and possibly slightly adjust exposure settings depending on which bulb I use.

For the price of the GoDOx, you can get 2 Quantum T2's and battery packs, and have a more powerful flash. Just saying.

Re power. Im not sure bout that. Witstro AD360 has a guide no of 80(m)
Re price. Is the Quantum still available new? You might be able to find second hand 360's cheaper as well.

GN of the Quantum Qflash T2 is 160, so about twice as much.

I also don't know if I'd expect a GoDox to be working 5-10 years from now with heavy use. The Quantums have proven themselves to be workhorses.

I'll stick with my original suggestion, but to each his own.

Are you sure youre not talking feet? Im talking meters, then the Quantum is only about 50-68ish.
Whether the ad360 still works in 5 or 10 years nobody knows. You can get sparebulbs for them so Im quite confident though durability is a reasonable concern.

I have an Agfa flash gun that with tilt head, uses a standard 9V battery, I have not used in a few years, well more than a few years so I hope the capacitor still works. When working with a TTL like a Yashica D 124 I used a flash bracket rather than the cold shoe so I could bounce off a ceiling. I think any electronic with a bear flash tube will give the same look. If you have cheap old electronic flash you can remove the plastic diffusion cover to expose the flash tube and see how that works.
