Hello all,
I recently was given an OM-1n by my mom and would like to start using it. There seems to be an issue with the flash though. The flash is a Rokinon 26AMD.
I just got this the other day and have yet to use the camera, but everything seems to be in working order. The 625 battery that powers the exposure guide is still good and the needle in the viewfinder changes appropriately based on the lighting. When I power the flash, the ready/test button on the flash itself lights up after a bit and when I press it, it flashes appropriately. However when I have the flash attached to the actual camera and take a picture, the flash does not trigger. I read that the shoe 4 can be prone to breakage and this one does have cracks in it.
When the flash is charged and ready, the "flash ready" LED does show up in the viewfinder on the camera though. In the fourth picture I posted, I circled two contacts in red on the flash that if shorted, cause the flash to trigger. I then circled in yellow the contacts on the shoe 4 that those flash contacts seem to line up with. I checked to see if the two circled in yellow create a short circuit when taking a picture by placing the shutter speed at 1 second but nothing changed on my ohmmeter. That was just an assumption I was making based on an observation though, I have no idea how the flash actually is supposed to operate.
I also checked the continuity of the shoe 4 contacts pictured with the actual pins they trace to when the shoe 4 is taken off the camera. Each of the pins trace back to the top contacts just fine.
If anyone can give me any advice at all it would be much appreciated. As I said I just received this camera and know absolutely nothing about it other than what I've been able to find in the past couple days just googling around. And that is surprisingly little aside from the history of the camera itself. I cannot find anything on the Rokinon 26amd flash aside from a few ebay listings for used ones. Let me know if I've left anything important out or if I've missed anything glaringly obvious like flipping a switch or the like. I'll be checking back regularly for responses!
Thanks so much!
Matt
Ah also I did try the flash in both X and FP mode, but from what I've read it should be in X mode. Neither worked though. I also have no clue what the other 4 contacts on the flash are for as they don't appear to line up with anything significant on the shoe 4. Any insight into that would be nice as well
