Not if you use correct procedures. I'll admit the older 900 series may not have as many safety features built in but I have a wide range of packs and the smaller DC/portables. (newer models are much better)
Cables will arc if you dont follow the correct sequence or try to adjust power settings at the wrong times :devil:

Haha OR they could make them so you don't have to follow ANY procedure as just shoot and not worry about it, that's why I use the profoto's I can up or down the power settings and it will auto dump if it needs to, the older ones wouldn't auto-dump but you could still do it without concern for your life (or your pants).
Now I know to stay away from Normans...
