I just received my first batch of chemicals yesterday and need a little help before I process.

I was told glass was a good material to store chemicals and so I plan on using a perrier bottle to store my diluted fixer. I measured the bottle as holding 800ml when full to the brim. However I don't see myself using 800ml everytime I process film, is it ok to make an 800ml solution and only use 300 or so ml at a time (replacing that 300ml into the bottle when finished)?

I hope that makes sense...

You can use fixer over and over again and just pour it back into the bottle when you are done fixing. Eventually it will wear out and stop working though, so you should test it by taking some film and seeing if the fixer still is clearing the film.

I have 500ml of fixer (100+400). I use 300ml for 1 film and pour it back with the remaining 200. I keep on using the bottle until clearing time has doubled. I then replace the whole 500 ml. Works perfectly OK.

By the way, you don't need to store it in a glass bottle. It should keep nicely in a plastic one, at least for 2 months. I use 500ml bottles from soft drinks.
