I want a fixed focus effect like you get with a single use camera. I want to be able to shoot video without constantly shifting the focus. Small aperture is fine, I am working in bright sun or studio with blinding video light,Are you looking for a specific effect? Turning of the AF already gives you fixed focus.
Stop it down and set the hyperfocal distance.... Done.
The app "Digital Depth of Field" is wonderful for finding hyperfocal distance on those annoying modern lenses. I use it for large format to give me an idea of what will be in focus on 4x5 without having to struggle with the low light of a stopped down lens.If you want a true fixed focused look, set shutter at 1/125s, aperture at f8, ISO at 100-400 and set hyperfocal distance using markings on the lens (unfortunately many modern lenses no longer have those markings, but all my old ones do).
This and use a wider angle lens. It'll give you greater depth of field. That's how the fixed focus lenses on disposable cameras work.Stop it down and set the hyperfocal distance.... Done.
The hyperfocal distance is maybe 1000 to 2000 (or perhaps a little more) times the apparent diameter of the lens aperture as measured through the front lenses of the camera lens. That specified constant varies with the preference of the photographer and the ultimate use of the image.
