is it true that you can't see the meter with certain fisheye lenses with the nikkormat series?

The rear elements of some fisheye Nikkors extend deep into the mirror box and require that the mirror be locked up to take a picture. You can't meter through-the-lens with these lenses.

I am not sure of the other models but I have the Nikkormat FT3 and besides having the meter in the viewfinder, it also has an external meter on the top plate next to the rewind lever.

You took the words right out of my mouth
I have a FTN & FT2 and both have the top meter readout.
I'm pretty sure even the FT had this but dont know about the eelectronic series of Mats like the EM etc.

what i mean is will the image circle of nikon fisheye lenses block out the meter with any nikkormat?

I think the full frame fisheyes meter accurately, but the short one that gives a circular image needs a handheld meter.

The meter readout on the deck of the Nikkormat is a useful duplicate of the internal meter: mirror up means no TTL metering. I had a full frame sigma 16mm fisheye which worked very well with the meter, but if you used the pseudo circular fisheye adapter (which was a lens cap with a hole in it) it was better to use an external meter.
The Nikkormat was *the*best*bargain* in 35mm in my humble opinion.
