Just a quick note, you can probably still buy light seals from Hasselblad directly. The last time I contacted them through the website they said they still sold the light seals.

Rather than crapping up the camera with tape, just check and replace the light seals when needed on any camera.

Agreed. Why deface such a beautiful camera with tape when replacement seals are like $20 and will last another few years at least.

Your back needs a CLA.

You may not have read through the entire thread, but the seller replaced the back with another one. Turns out that back had a minor light leak in it as well! They installed a new seal and the light leak is gone.

And I agree with the others who say that replacing the light seals is a cheap/simple enough procedure that there's not much point in taping up the dark slide slot. I guess the only reason I can think of for doing that is if you don't want to ruin a roll of film before realizing that the seals are worn and light is leaking in.

I've got two backs, one of which leaks. Mostly I use the one that doesn't, but they both could use a CLA, as well as the rest of the kit for that matter. It'll all get serviced in due course, and until then a little tape keeps me rolling and doesn't hurt a thing, including my ego. In fact the only price I pay for the tape is someone I don't know calling me stupid. I'm good with that.

I couldn't give a crap about someone here judging me because I have a little extra tape, that's nearly impossible to see, as a fail-safe.

Yes I maintain my equipment well and ensure the seals are good, but in the event a seal fails before I replace it as part of my routine maintenance, I'd rather not lose the images I shot. It that gets someone's knickers in a bunch here that's your problem, not mine. That "penny-wise pound stupid" bullshit doesn't apply to me.

Suggested by some others here, a covering of some sort, sock hat, etc, which I agree could be a temporary answer, until you can get the light trap/seal kit or repaired, so I suggest the leather bags with draw strings that headphones come in, such as some Sony's have.

Using one of these would be simple and your camera back could be carried in on, or over a a closed body.

IMO.

Gaffer tape.

Leaves a much cleaner surface than typical electric tape, that will accumulate dirt, etc, requiring special care.

I still carry electrical tape, as well as gaffers, because it does have a place, but also alcohol pads for quick clean-up.

TIP; sometime when you are out shooting with a light bag/pouch, having gaffers tap, lain down on the backing paper from used Velcro self-adhesive rolls and similar, larger sheets, folded to be compact, can be a big help.

I've found that, for example, Velcro tape backing of .75 in, or larger, is a great size for field duty, many times, we only need small strips, such as in your film back, and I've often have it in my carry bags, for when I'm on foot and away from the car.

I hope that helps, Good Luck and Godspeed to all,
Eli
