First post! Minolta SRT 303 MLU

Howdy,

This is my first post, so please be nice!

Can anyone tell me the best and most sure fire method to tell (or to tell someone else) whether a SRT 303 has Mirror lock up? I have been looking at one for sale online, but the description is pretty vague and I am not sure whether the seller would really know what to look for (& I have never actually seen one in the flesh!)

I think the SRT 303 was more commonly sold as the SRT 102.

Do you have a picture or a link to the one you are interested in?

The little lever to the left of the lens and slightly above centre is the mirror lock up. Not to be confused with the large button near the bottom which is the depth of field preview.

I'm pretty sure its not a 303b, which definitely doesn't have MLU. According to Rokker, the first 303 was also called a 102 or just a super, depending on market. But it also states that MLU was dropped during the production run

From looking at the picture in the ebay link, I would say that it has. But I wouldn't take my word for it.

Have you asked the seller?

The 303 in the picture DOES have mirror lock up.

Yeah, just read this. John is right. It has it. Small dial on the passenger side of the camera body (sorry, I sell auto parts) behind the lens mount.

Would that be right hand drive or left? I have several cameras that wind "upside down and backwards" and two that wind sideways.

Thanks. I am looking at this with both fear and excitement. Apart from some Minolta AF lenses, this is the first time I have bought anything seriously old on ebay.

Now, to find a SRT101 and then a X570 and then a.......

Don't forget an XD-7 / XD-11. That one would be on my very short list of golden oldies, along with the SRT303 (aka SRT102 or SRT Super) - like the one that you just won. IMO it's a better package than the SRT-101. I sold one for a friend a while ago and kinda wish I'd given her some money and kept it for myself.

Now, what to do with the Pentax SP500 kit that another friend wants me to get rid of for him...

I got a Minolta XE-1 recently. Also called the XE-7 in the US and just XE in some other places. It's half way between the SRT and XD in my opinion as it has metering with aperture priority auto but retains the older styling. I don't like the 'more modern' styling of the XD series (20+ years old being more modern to me!).

The early XD has a more traditional Minolta look than the later ones - the last one even has the 'new' Minolta logo. Heresy!!! I love 'em all anyway, but ya just gotta know when to stop!!!

Just because you know when to stop doesn't mean you have to stop.

Having said that, I tried to count up all of my film cameras yesterday. I think it came to thirty five. Perhaps I'm at that stopping point.... nearly.

I think you're well past stopping point already - you should send me your XE-1 immediately, unless you have one of those new-fangled XD-11 things stashed away somewhere that you can send instead (or as well)

It's your only hope of a cure for GAS.

Oh yeah. My wife's two biggest gripes are (lovingly) 'You're getting ANOTHER camera?' and 'Why do you use older technology? It could be easier.'

Don't worry, it does have it. That's what that thing is on the right hand side on the lens mount. *Some* 101's don't have lockup. I don't think the 570 has lockup either.
