Kodak BW400CN was my first pseudo B&W film. My first real B&W was Kodak Tmax 400.

Verichrome Pan in 620 and other obsolete formats used by my parents' box cameras. I suppose that dates me.

The first B&W films I used were Ilford XP2 Super and Kodak BW400 CN back in the early 90s. I switched over to non-C41 films about 5 or 6 years ago.

Where the non-C41 films are concerned, my first film was the 5063-emulsion Tri-X.

Today, Tri-X probably still accounts for 75% of my film usage.

Verichrome Pan in a Kodak Brownie 127. I notice several other Verichrome initiates. See you at the senior centre chaps:D:D:D:D

Verichrome 116 Orthochromatic in a No. 2A Folding Pocket Brownie Camera, Model A, in the late 1940s. Just a few years later it was Super=XX Panchromatic film, ASA 100, and Daylight Kodachrome, ASA 10, in a Mercury II with an f/2.7 lens and 1/1000 focal plane shutter. Wow! what blazing speed! Some of those Kodachromes still look good, too.

Hello, I am currently new to the black and white film, I am taking my first photography class with developing. I have been shooting for 2yrs expect color process. So, this evening I go out to shoot my first project, I had a roll of color left, that I finished up, and went to put in the tmax 400 b&w, and the the door wouldn't shut, then I finally got it closed and then I run into another problem my data panel is blank. So, that was great, I only had one roll with me cause that is what the project called for. I know my camara works great, never had any problems prior, I have a minolta maxxium5. Could it have been the film, or what? Thanks!

Fotopan HL

My first film was Fotopan HL. I was seven years old - thirty years ago. I got a Smena 8m camera for my birthday along with some Fotopan HL film. I still have the negatives.

a bit embarrassing (due to age) but mine was panatomic-x... (ACK!! - I'm 42)

Sparky: Nothing personal, but you'll get no sympathy from me!! Not at MY age you won't!!

I suspect Verichrome, probably in 127 size. Then Plus-x 135. So very long ago.

My first film was in an old 620 Brownie that my parents used to photograph me when I was a baby. I don't remember the model, and it is long gone (wait...my sister may have it stashed in a closet, in her house in Barrie, Ontario; I must ask). I don't recall the brand of film for sure, but I think it may have been Kodak Verichrome Pan film, and it would have been about 1962.

When I received my first real camera, at Christmas 1968, a Practika Nova (also long gone), my first film was Kodacolor-X, 20-exposures. My first B&W film was Tri-X pan, also 20-exposures.

IIRC it was BW400CN, about 5 years ago. I'd been shooting colour since the late 80's though. First real B&W(and second B&W roll) was HP5+, with Tri-X following a couple rolls later.

Verichrome Pan in a Brownie

My first camera, can't remember what format. 127? Something else long gone?

Then my dad developed and printed it in his darkroom, he was a pro.

1964 Ansco All Weather Pan in 127. It came in a kit with a bottle of Hyfinol L developer and short stop and fixer and a contact printer for 127 sized negatives.
