There has to be a logical cause.

You need to try & match the line on the film to the position in the back, and the camera without the back. I assume you've checked the pressure plate.

It's highly unlikely to be a light leak, but at this stage it can't be ruled out, try a bit of tape over the dark-slide slot, I'd expect heavy fogging though at one point on each affected frame.

There must be someone near you with an ETRS, ideally you need to try a different back & see if that eliminates the problem, also try and get another user to have a good look at it. It must be extremely frustrating

Only a little frustrating...hahahaha ONLY A LITTLE!!!!!!!!

I still feel scratching is what is happening, this time it was only on 3 shots and towards the end but know where else, so its getting less.
It can't be a light leak the line is just to perfect I would expect a little blue on the edges.

Still the pink has gone after washing for 20mins so thank you Ian for that advice :D

Paul

PS. I don't know any other photographers, I am sort of a loner on this one among friends.

Now that you have worked on the magazine, check to see if the scratches are coming from the body or curtain shutters.

I know the lines are not coming from the body as I have a polaroid back and every image comes out fine.

I am not squeegeeing my film I use my fingers but I check the film before doing any of that and the thin lines are still there, it has to be something on the back. But how to sort it I just don't know!

If it is a light leak, maybe it comes and goes depending on how you hold the camera. If there were a way to mask off or put a black bag around everything but the lens, and then shoot a test roll, and either eliminate a light leak possibility or eliminate a scratch.

every test roll has been the same shot I guess the light leak really in that case is very unlikely. I was trying to think if it could be anything I was doing when putting in on the spool for developing, but as its alway in the same place across but not around, I guess it can't be.

A long shot here, but in reading through this, I haven't seen anything test performed to insure it is your camera doing this (unless I missed it). Remote as it might be, how about a random defect/scratch being introduced during manufacture? I guess if it were me, at this point I would be frustrated enough to expose a roll to light and develop it. If no scratch, at least you would be 100% certain it is your camera that is introducing the problem.. just a thought.

If I expose it to light it will be black as the line is, so it would be better not to expose it at all, but surly it would be unlikely that 3 rolls would have the same issue

the only issue and I guess its not an issue really is its my last roll until I get paid on wednesday when I will order 10 more but that will take a few days, I don't really know what I am hoping for apart from pure luck that the 4th roll just comes out ok...haha

OK well back here again, I developed my 4th roll and still the line, this time at the start of the film only. I keep looking at the back have had other people go over the back and nothing, could it be a bad batch? is that possible or just really unlikely?

Dear Shaggy,

Send an example back to us ( me ) and I will have it checked out*....never say never... but I have checked we have no QC's ( Quality Complaints ) outstanding at present on any film product at all.

* When you have a 'weird' one like this it can help sending it to us ( or KODAK or FUJI if it is their film ) as we ( and them ) would normally look at the film under an Electron Microscope, so we quickly rule out the film. Believe me when I say for ourselves, KODAK and FUJI it is very, very rarely a manufacturing fault but it does happen, and when you buy our films ( or KODAK or FUJI ) its part of the after sales service.

Shaggy. I don't know where in Northants you are but if you can get to Northampton then go to Skears on the Wellingborough road. It's about half to three quarter of a mile from the Grosvenor Centre. Walk up the pedestrianised Abington Street to the top in the direction of Wellingborough, past Jessops then carry on for about 5-700 yards along the Wellingborough road. You can't miss it. Worth a visit anyway for the secondhand cameras, lenses and accessories. They have a full repair shop on the premises and might be prepared to have a quick look on the spot.

Shaggy,
Do you develop your own film?
This points out to me a claw made by this horror film squeegee
Use the natural chamois. Film squeegee is excellent for fine scratches.

You can also do a test with a color film developed at the photographer in your area (if it still exists and it has not converted into sales of mobile phones :D)

Sorry for my bad English (I will eventually mark the sentence in my signature)

Pentaxuser: I live about 45 paces from Skears in fact I just find them very expensive so I never go in :D
jmdco: I use my fingers to squeegee a very natural way.

Update though, I found the tinyest burr on the film back in line with the make made I have taken it off an also swapped the rollers round and developed a new roll of film and the mark has gone WOOOO! I hear you save yes but then on frame 8 I found 3 very very very thin fine lines but I think I am nearly there :D
