Does anyone know if Fine Art Photo Supply Swan Valley, MT, is still in business? Their web site can't be found. If you have their phone # can you let me have it?

They are still around. I just talked to Sherry this morning. They were unaware that the website needed to be renewed (since they recently bought that business). I'm going to be rebuilding that website for them in the next couple of months. I got to get Photographers Formulary's new site live in the next couple of weeks first.

You can always call Sherry at Photographers' Formulary to place a Fine Art Photo order.

Yup, they are still around, I just talked to the owner on Tuesday and he was saying they needed to change the website around and update it. Just give Fourmulary a call, and I am sure they can help you out.

The page works for me- http://www.fineartphotosupply.com/productspage3.htm

God bless them in God's country! I can't help but admire those who support our medium in today's market- It takes an ample supply of passion, courage, and dedication. They sent me a cool newsletter in February of 2004.

From their website is the following About Us:

"... let me just say that all photography - my photography - is really just beginning. After all, photography is only a little over 100 years old, and that's not very long for an art form."

Ansel Adams

from Ansel Adams, Photographer, 1980

Fine Black and White Photography possesses a unique quality - it is detached from reality, yet it originates from an optical reality. Because of this, some people have called Fine Art Black and White Photography "...the most exciting visual medium of our age."

Fine Art Photo Supply serves the Small, Large and Medium Format fine art photographer, and all users of traditional and/or alternative photographic methods. Our company is somewhat similar to the old Zone VI Studios. We design and manufacture specialized photographic equipment and publish a quarterly newsletter. In this day and age of digital gizmos and computer generated and manipulated prints, we sell only traditional equipment and materials.

Our company is unique. It is run by people who understand how photographic materials work, and how to get the most out of them for expressive results.

We are serious, practicing photographers and you can trust what we say about things like washing prints, printing methods, developers, cameras and lenses, tripods, exposure and development, etc. We use what we sell and sell only what we find to be the best.
At Fine Art Photo Supply, we make serious products for serious photographers. We also provide practical information on photographic processes and procedures for our customers; and if we don’t know something we’ll find it out.

Back in 1972 when I started photography, there was no such thing as "Fine Art Photography". Now, with the advent of digital photography, the niche of the Fine Art - silver image - Black and White Photographer is a much larger and much more specific part of the "traditional" market. For that matter, the Fine Art Black and White Photographer may encompass the entire traditional market.

There are now photographers who practice traditional methods because they prefer that process, much like stone lithographic printmakers and oil painters—this makes up the new Fine Art Photography market. This is the market we serve.
