Filters for TLR with no threads on lens

I recently had a Ricoflex Super rebuilt and have been using it to explore medium format photography. (I love working with the larger negatives!)

I would like to be able to use filters with this camera but there are no threads on the lens. I have looked for push on filter holders but have found none. I've thought about designing a filter holder and cutting down some rectangular filters to fit but the lens rotates when you focus so that plan is out.

Any suggestions appreciated.

What is the external diameter of the lens mount?

looks like the outside of the barrel is about 1 3/8 inches. I loaned my calipers out, if you need a more accurate measurement then I'll have to get it back from my friend.

Let me take that measurement to my old Photo Lab Index and see what number slip-on EK filter holder would fit.

There are many filter systems that require no slip-on rings or screws. You might take a look at some of them next time you visit your camera dealer.

A Series VI EK slip-on adapter ring 1 3/8 inches is listed for that size. Then you would either have to find a Series VI to Metric adapter; or some Series VI drop in filters.

We have two chain stores that usually have one or two developers in stock and a limited supply of paper. Finding any real equipment means a trip to Chicago or buying online. When you have posted and reposted information on the same subject over and over, you kinda get tired doing it and start referring people to the search engine. So it is not perfect, are you?

It might use bayonet filters. Just a thought. The Yashica TLR's used them but the filters are very hard to find these days.

Let's not jump on people, (yes, I also was jumped on as a newbie here ) the OP asked a fair question, which could benefit others without the expertise and long experience of some of the longer-standing members, and I think his rant may have been added after he was put down?

I'm not perfect either, but it was only the patience of more experienced members in my school and college photographic societies in answering my questions that I learned and gained a lifetime hobby and interest. And, yes, I can see now that my questions were elementary and repetitive, and I could have found the answers elsewhere with a bit of effort. One learns these things.

Another option could be to find a step up ring which could somehow be semi-permanently fixed to the lens allowing the use of standard 46mm filters.

The Super Ricohflex uses push on (also called Push fit) filters. The size is 36mm. You can find them on e***....

IDK when the rant was added, but it was there after the individual had gotten some polite answers and before there was a put down by John. In fact, the put down was added in response to the rant if you look at the sequence of events.

My comment was in response to John.

I am happy to answer anyone's questions and with the number of posts you see beside my name, you know that I do. This is also after over 3000 PMs and roughly 20 e-mails / day. Many of them repeat the same questions over and over. I answer but also direct to the search engine. After all, reposting uses up disk space and further stresses the search engine.

So, now you know where I am coming from.

I always read and value your postings. I just guess that I don't like to see anyone put down, least of all enthusiastic beginners (we need new analogue workers!).

And I'd just had a put-down on another group from two-or-three members who are fanatical about a certain film, and who couldn't be bothered to read my postings properly (my postings were not contentious, just a genuine concern about one issue of the film use...it was one of those rare times when I actually really did have some useful practical experience of the particular point). Thank goodness we can come back to APUG, at least we can settle any disagreements and move on. (That's my little rant for today).

Your own points about the search engine and bandwidth are taken. One can forget how much we get for little or no cost on the web.

Not going to happen, I put that on there for a reason. I assure you I'm not a high school student, I'm 33, well educated and frankly irritable at times. I joined this forum to share information and learn from those more knowledgeable than myself. I quickly get frustrated by members who refer people back to the search engine, or instruct that a topic has been covered before, that helps no one and only serves to alienate new members who have difficulty navigating what is a vast and at times difficult site. If people feel like posting links as a response that is great and useful, berating others is not.

If you are tired of having "posted and reposted information on the same subject over and over" then don't, I'm sure that others will and won't begrudge passing along that information.

The whole idea of these forums is for people to come together, share ideas on photography and enjoy themselves in doing so. That is why I am here and simply want no part of the rants. (Though I have been drawn into this one) My tag was not intended as a rant, simply an invitation for those that felt like providing nonproductive answers to keep those to themselves. The tag put in after my first thread was submitted and the first response was to go to the search engine, which I had already tried with no success.

I put it there for all the users who are frustrated by this line of response in the hopes it would make others think a bit. Every single member should feel free to ignore me if they wish.

Please note that at times the tone of a post is difficult to interpret but rest assured this is all said without angst or malice toward anyone, merely a stating of my my opinion and an explanation to any that may have been offended by my tag, offense was not my intent, simply filtration.

For those of you that provided useful information on my latest query, I thank you sincerely. I shall jump on the auction site and start searching for push on filters.

Push on filters were once very common, maybe your local photo-store is no good, so try others when you visit other towns/cities. Many stores have a drawer or two full of odd bits & pieces, there's 3 different stores I try for odd filters, lens caps etc, 2 are 30mins drive the other 2 hours, but it's remarkable what you can find.

BTW while the Search functions of the site may not be brilliant it's remarkably easy to find relevant threads particularly if you use the Google option.

The google option was just recently suggested to me and yes, much better.

I've found some push on filter holders on the auction site but now I'm having trouble finding the filters! It's obvious this will be a bit of a process but that is part of the fun... Right?

Found Series VI slip on filter holder on Eb** along with several Series VI filters to go along with it. Looks like that will do the trick.

Indeed! Actually quite excited because I have a good sized box full of old series VI filters inherited years ago when a friend passed.
