I have recently purchased a Schneider Symmar-S 5.6/240mm lens. I need to attach a screw in polarizer filter on the front. I am afraid to order anything because I am unsure of the size (exactly) and the threading. I did find the specs on schneideroptics.com that has "Accessory Thread" which is M 86 X 1.

I am thinking this is 86mm for the filter size but not sure if 1 is the thickness or the threading.

It does show Mounting Thread as M 62 X 0.75.
What I need is a linear polarizer filter of good to excellent quality.
Thanks for any help.

Mine is 86mm. It's a multicoated version in a black prontor shutter. If you aren't shooting 8x10 i'd suggest getting a 86mm to 82mm step down ring and getting a 82mm pola instead. The price will usually be much less for the 82mm filter and the size is more common when it comes to other lenses and accessories. If you shoot 8x10 then this doesn't apply as it'll vignette if you use movements.
