Witold, please write me, how to define good lab. There are 5-7 minilanbs in my city with Noritsu or Nikon equipment. Peoples opinions on them are positive or they are unpopular.
I've only ever seen and used Agfa, Durst, Fuji Frontier and Noritsu but never a Nikon minilab although there used to be a scanning service based in India that did use Nikon Coolscans. I wonder if that minilab with Nikon uses Coolscans or there was a Nikon minilab scanner I was never aware of?

runswithsizzersSubscriber, thank you for detailed answer. I really confused features, but confused because "this option is displayed when the scanner can control the CCD exposure time and when scanning slide film (not Color negative, B/W negative or Microfilm)." The appearance is always Professional. There no multi-exposure option. I think, it is because the scanner does not support function. Really Scanjet 4600 normally works over the majority of the negs. The quality is acceptable. But there are 20% of them, I want to scan better. They look like the above image, or look as a stardard photo, but I want more details.

There is a result of scanning with Noritsu in the minilab.

Les Sarile, The result of Noritsu is above. I did not any special Nikon scanner for minilabs. Simple the lab I used provides scannning by Noritsu or Nikon scanner for consumer choice.

Unfortunately, this is confirmation of what you already said earlier that even with light behind it there was nothing to see.
I tried some shadows post work on it and there wasn't anything to be gained. I doubt an uncompressed file format would have yielded any more.

Because these are old family photos, I can appreciate the effort to salvage as much as you can. I once had someone bring me some old family pics on Kodachrome that were much better exposed but unfortunately all mildly out of focus.
