film notch code

I have some old film with this notch code. Anyone know what it might be so I have a starting point to try and use it?

There is no universal notch code.

Years ago, when Kodak was still the 500# gorilla in the industry, they started a trend to coding individual films with distinctive notches involving a combination of shapes and their sequence. Unfortunately, the only industry standard that evolved from that practice was that the notch should be in the upper right corner when facing the emulsion side of the sheet.

I believe that Kodak still uses distinctive codes on their films. Here's a link to the most recent published definitions that I could find. Unfortunately, the notching on Sirius Glass's sheet doesn't seem to match any of those codes. Note that Kodak appears to use sharp corners on rectangular notches, while Sirius Glass's notch has rounded corners.

I think Richard's example only shows one corner of the sheet. But clearly it doesn't convey much information. The only suggestion I can make is that the shape of the notch reminds me of the notches in Ilford film, but I can't get any more definitive than that.

Forte, and EFKE (Adox) use a simple notch code like that, I dare say others did as well.

According to my old Kodak DR data guide (1969), your film is Ektapan 4162, ASA 100.
"Commercial 6127" has a similar code but the "v" is smaller and farther from the rectangular notch.

Can't think of the name off the top of my head (J&C maybe), but the guy outside Kansas City that repackaged a lot of film used a simple notch like that, 1/2 circle, on the repackaged HP5+ he sold under his own label.

If it is on a very (very) thin base, this might be Ilford's IH4 Ilfolith film.

Thanks, Steven. It's Ilford Ortho+. Now I recall that I got it in a trade and the other person sent some ortho film for me to try. I tried it but didn't label the box...
