As part of my planning for the forthcoming FREE UK LF WORKSHOP I have come across an excellent supplier of black and white sheet film and chemistry - based in the UK! Some of you may already have had dealings with them but I thought I'd let any interested parties know! RETROPHOTOGRAPHIC (www.retrophotographic.com) have stocks of "interesting" sheet films in a range of speeds and what's more, a range of sizes - and not just 5x4 and a bit of 10x8! Nigel DEAR at Retrophotographic also has packs of 11x14, 5x7 and 13x18 sat on his shelves too! I had a chat with him and he is also able to get film cut to size - any size (contact him for details). He stocks a range of formats, 35mm, 120 included and also a range of chemistry. Much of the film is of European origin and is very reasonably priced and available in different quantity boxes. I discovered that Nigel is also a committed LF user too! I was VERY impressed with his enthusiasm for all things LF and thought I'd pass on this useful information for anyone scratching their heads when trying to source sheet film! FILM IS NOT DEAD!!

I find that when prices are converted to Canadian dollars plus shipping stuff is more expensive than buying from the US. This applies to most suppliers except Speedibrews.
I once placed an order with Silverprint and got a one line reply 'sorry we don't ship chemicals'
What a let down for an old colonial who used to be able to stay in a London hotel for 3 quid 8s including breakfast.

What is it about the Brits that there is so much enthusiasm for B&W photography? I think it's great, don't get me wrong - but when I Google various obscure things photographic, I get a lot of URLs in the UK. Cheerio and Good Egg to Nigel for being a Keeper of the Light. And to all you Faire Anglish Folke, keep up the good work!

Kick back?? I'm hurt guys Well I did have a long chat with Nigel about his passion for LF and especially older equipment and he did offer a small discount for people attending the UK LF workshop - if you call that a kick back then fine! Guilty as charged! But plenty of dealers offer 10% discount on purchases if you mention this web site or that! Or if you belong to this group or that! In fact, here in dear old Blighty, if you belong to a camera club you get this level of discount at the local camera shop! But the point to my posting was the "surprise" I had when I discovered a UK-based supplier of sheet film in the variety offered by this company. I thought EVERYONE would be interested - given the recent concerns about the future of sheet film. If I've offended anyone by this posting then can I offer my apologies and if the forum moderator pulls the posting then that's fine. I PERSONALLY DON'T GET ANYTHING OUT OF THIS! Us brits will preserve anything, cars, aircraft, boats - not entirely sure why, so it's not really a surprise there is such enthusiam for b&w photography here. A large proportion of the members here seem to be from the UK.

I've used retro photographic before, they are very helpful. I predict that smaller suppliers like these will become more previlant and do well in the future with digitals impact on photography.

I have no doubt film will not die here in the UK for a long long time!

...I bought some Foma film (35mm and 120 format) from retrophotographic.
Nice film,and it arrived quickly!

I first bought stuff from Retro about 6-9 months ago. I don't use ULF and they do not stock Ilford so I don't buy film or paper from them but I have bought some Maco 820c and other odds and sods. They also stock the Moersch stuff which I keep meaning to try...

Guess, that is why we like British .
I got some russian fim and paper from Nigel, strange that I have buy products in the west which come from the east. He was even nice enough to drop off the stuff in Cologne for me.

Seems like some are not reading Black&White photography as they should, there is always ad from Retro in this mag.

Just received...

...an e~mail from 7dayshop.
For those who aren't familiar with them,they're an e~mail order company who sell mainstream photographic materials (primarily d......)mostly to the UK .
The e~mail stated that "due to popular demand" they're going to be re stocking certain Kodak films in both 35mm and 120 format.
Admittedly,I stopped buying Kodak films when they "amalgamated" Supra(which was at that time the ONLY colour print film I used)with Gold,and(in my opinion) ruined both films-but,if a mainstream supplier is INCREASING its' range of films(especially 120 format),surely that's got to be an encouraging sign.

No, actually, I didn't, but I was surprised to see how nicely their site has been redesigned...no more mutiple clicking to get to the goodies either. Where's the little flashy thing?

It's very small at the bottom of at least some of the pages. I don't know if it's on every page. Maybe it only appears with the LF stuff, but if you look at digital items there might be one that says "film is dead."

I've been tempted to try some of the Slavich silk (or stipple) surface paper.
I miss Brovira in this surface.
