Film is not dead: Demand soars for vintage cameras in developing trend

You're thinking way too deep into sports. It doesn't make sense. Tribalism is alive and well. Go Tribe!

I don’t care what those tribal folks get up to but when I get taxed to pay for a stadium, that does have a direct impact on me. Plus, the association of sports events with patriotism is sickening.

The Raiders came to Los Angeles and raped the city for millions of US dollars and ran away the next year. For years no professional football team could get past the voters in Los Angeles. It was a glorious period in which one could see on television every professional football game in the season and have plenty of money to pay the best Super Bowl tickets, airfare, hotel and meals if one chose. Or just keep the money for beer and beer nuts. If a team wants to come to the Los Angeles area they need to be ready to build their own stadium at their own expense.

Did the Rams pay for their stadium?

Are we competing in this thread for the "most off topic straying" award?

Nah, just seeing how bitter some people can get.

On topic, I'm willing to pay $10 for a Leica seeming as according to some people here the interest in film is fickle. These cameras should be worthless in a few years.

No the Raiders demanded that Memorial Stadium be renovated and remodeled at Los Angeles' cost plus pay them tens of millions of dollars to get them to come. Decades later we are still paying those debits off. Fuck all professional teams forever.

I will pay $10US and throw in six cans of dog food.

You're confused. Read Pieter's question again, paying particular attention to the team he asked about. You're still hung up on the Memorial Coliseum and the Raiders.

The tube tester in the drug store brings back memories. I should probably get mine checked out.

Smaller flats/apartments have bathrooms of course, but often quite small...and where does one keep the enlarger and other paraphernalia when not in use? These homes don't have storage closets, don't have garages, basements or attics, don't have spare rooms.

Yes, the changing bag enables processing. I keep all my processing equipment in one bucket so it's easy to store in an enclosed porch when not in use. The desktop PC has an older Epson V series scanner. Wet printing waits until I can commandeer a bedroom at my mother's house where my enlarger lives. Though I do have a garage, it's full of camping equipment which is more frequently used.

And they can't just leave the film in the camera or sitting in a drawer? Or learn the art of procrastination?

The Los Angeles area hospitals are excellent. It’s where the US military sends it’s trainees to see how to treat gun shot victims.
If we didn’t have the crime level we have, where would they get their training? Chicago? Oh wait..

Flint, MI has excellent water.

Flint, MI has excellent water.

Get your iron, and copper, and lead all for breakfast.

But hey, at least we HAVE water eh? I take no chances, I have a full softener, active carbon filtration system. Which btw was an adjustment from city water when I started using it for development. Watermarks like I never had before.

Speak for yourself. I have cut back my film use and printing to conserve water.

I live within sight (on a clear day) of the largest natural freshwater resource on the planet. And whatever goes down the sink? Goes to the treatment plant and right back in. Literally cannot waste water. It'll be back one way or another. Weather does get me down though 8 months of the year. It's a tradeoff.

They moved to Los Angeles before I moved here so I do not know. More recently they worked out something with the stadium owners but Los Angeles did not use city or county money to bring them back.

The Rams came to L.A. twice. They started in Cleveland, were in L.A. for a long time and then left in 1995 for St. Louis. They came back in 2016 and I'm sure a lot of money was doled out to get them back.

Did you read my earlier post? If one does not have the space for a dedicated or at temporary darkroom, the cost of the equipment is irrelevant. Having the space is a problem for most interested people.
Yes I read it. It's still a straw man argument. Homeless people, by definition, won't have the space. So what does that have to do with other people who do?

I was responding to Drew who was talking about people making $160k+ not having the space. I said "why don't they move away?" as many people in information jobs (like mine) can work wherever they want. Then they'd have the space or at least could afford the space if they wanted.

What on earth this has to do with homeless people utterly baffles me.

What does the year have to do with emotion? Are most people now emotionless androids or something?

Deception has nothing at all to do with it. That's like saying that once you understand what causes a rainbow, or a brightly colored flower, it ceases to be beautiful. I can understand the process on a scientific level and still experience it emotionally as what I call "magical."

I'm baffled again. We just see things differently.

It's a magical feeling experience to me.
