Film Holder Repair

I have a couple of questions about the tape needed to repair film holders. Who knows where to get it is one question? the other is repairing a dented slide that has cracked but doesn't leak light. Any ideas

I don't know of any way to "repair" a darkslide other than replacing it. Replacement slides are available from the usual retail sources (B&H, Calumet, etc.)

As to the tape, there was a recent thread either here or on the largeformatphotography.info forum about that. While black gaffer's tape can be used in a pinch, the general opinion was that black book-binding tape was better (more pliable). The thread included source references.

The folks that make film holders, Fidelity and the rest, sell replacement tape. I think they are in Burbank, CA.

As far as dented darkslides ... hmm, is it worth fixing? Seems as though one could fill the dent with black epoxy and sand it down a little. Sort of like bondo. I have some cracked (but not dented) slides that were fixed with a very, very thin aluminized tape. Don't know anything about it, where it comes from, or what it's real use is.

I've used 'Fastape' book repair tape at www.demco.com. It is meant to reinforce book bindings and covers. It is similar thickness and flexibility to the tape it replaced, and is flexible at least to 32F/0C - below that and I'm dropping to MF

On a related, but different subject...

I have a brand new Fidelity holder where the bit separating the two sides has a big dent. Anyone have a good suggestion on how to de-dent it?

The tape can be bought in plumbing parts store it is used for air duct work in your house. Just FYI
