Film Ferrania p30

Recently film ferrania put their p30 film up for sale on their website. It's their "alpha test" of their first batch of B&W film. I ordered some the morning of "day one" but it hasn't arrived and it's been some time. I was wondering if anyone else here ordered any p30 and if it has arrived to them yet? I've emailed film ferrania but as of yet haven't gotten a response. I know they've got to be swamped so i'm remaining patient but I'm getting concerned that their website issues that morning may have lost my order. Luckily I have a screenshot of my order# if things get sticky, but I'm hoping that I'm not going to experience that level of hassle. Anybody else purchase some?

It's been a while, over a month I guess...I still have the confirmation email but I have no worries. It is an alpha product, and I see this as a test not only of their ability to produce a film but also of their whole initial infrastructure in terms of selling, packaging, quality control and shipping.

I never expected the process to be quick.

About time we had some posted images from the P30, unless I have missed a thread somewhere?

80 iso, HC110 1:60 12 mins reduced agitation, F100 55mm f3.5 micro Nikkor, V850 scan, matrix metered no adjustments to exposure, straight scans just sharpen for web, slight crop on the tack frame to tidy.
It dries flat BTW!!




Tack sharp (sorry) as above other than on 50mm f1.8 Nikkor Ai



My standard "tomb" test subject for films developers etc. details as above.

Very nice Chris! I love the tack shot - beautifully lit. Looking forward to seeing some more while I wait for my rolls in the post...

Thank you, the light was kind to me, late evening low sun must have been about 9pm. It's worth the wait, a distinct character to this film, next roll in Pyrocat HD I think. I didn't shoot brackets to see how that reacts either. They do say not to use motor drive but my F100 was fine, single shot only mode.

No it's not, I added my dev. details on their web page feedback form, my reduced agitation regime is cont. 1st min then three inversions at at 3,6 and 9 mins, 12 min total, I find it controls the grain, or a least I have that belief shall we say and 1:60 is H tweaked so I can measure 25ml for the 5 reel tank of 1500ml ( although I will go to 1:50 (30mls) if 5 filled reels are in as 25mls is on the edge of minimum requirement for 5 films, with no densitometer I don't see a difference

Chris, your film looks a lot better than all the images on the website. I think it shows the film in a great light.

Going through the website made me want to email them to ask if they gave any film to anyone who knew what they were doing. Lab development/scans, stand development, yuck....

Looks to me from the images on the website that the 80 ISO might be a little generous. But then again, see my previous sentence.

I would love to get my hands on some. When they start producing it, or maybe at the next release, I will get some. I think it has great potential. I shoot a lot of Eastman 5222 but would be more than happy to suffer the loss of a stop for the quality of the Ferrania.

Great pics, by the way. Looking forward to seeing them in Pyrocat-HD. It has been my main developer for several years now.

I agree the "best practices" is strange I would have thought a run through some straight standard developers would be more helpful but then again are "novice" shooters going to be picking up this film so it's not perhaps as surprising you get the personalised processes featuring.
Anyway I know a lot of people shoot portraits, personally I don't so here is one on the P30, just don't mention the dubious toupé



Same roll as previous 50mm Nikkor Ai f1.8, shot the roll with it for consistency, a known good lens, in fact a very good example of its kind.

I'm still waiting for my 5 rolls.... sigh.... I ordered around noon the day they took pre-orders. Wondering how early you guys got your order in?

I got my order in around 10:00AM West coast (US) time on the first day. Received shipping notification on May 22, and received the film 2 days later.

Where are you located? I believe the shipping facilities are different depending on your part of the world.

I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada. Maybe you're right. I thought they might fill orders as they were received but maybe it's being routed through some kind of distribution network.

At an ISO of 80 this may be an interesting film. It certainly fills a niche between slow films and medium speed ones. I wonder if Ferrania publishs an RMS Granularity for it.
