I just finished a roll on my SL66, and when the back was opened, I found the film didn't advanced properly. Most of the film is on the lower spool, which is not correct.
Is this a film back issue? I think I already put the film tightly while advancing it until the arrow sign is visible.

Hope you didn’t lose anything important.

Since you lost the roll, you can rewind it by hand and see if it happens again.

Needless to say, first issue seems to be-is it user error or a problem with the transport?

(I could not tell from what you wrote if you are familiar with this camera or new to it, so I do not mean to be disrespectful.)

My guess is that you loaded the film correctly. The adhesive tape that attaches the film to the paper leader might have come unstuck. So the paper leader passed through the film gate correctly, but the film was not pulled through with it, so gathered in the cavity. I have never seen that happen.

What film is that? The 120 film is taped to the backing paper at the leader end but some off-brand film, I seem to recall, had been reported in the past as having poorly taped film.

Rollei Retro 80. I just put another film (recently expired Portra 160), pretty sure it's attached tightly. Hope it works fine.

This is my 1st time shooting with the SL66 as an owner (already shot 2 or 3 rolls year ago, borrowed one from a friend).
Well, I've also shoot with the Mamiya RB, Hassy, Bronica SQ... and never experience such issue before.

I think the film was attached properly (based on reading the manual and watching various Youtube tutorials).
