My lab offers a C41 process and scan to cloud (Google Drive) service. The customer purchases the service on line and posts their film to us. The customer has the option to pay extra for the return of their negs . Only about 5% of customers choose to have their negs returned. I keep the negs for one month just incase they change their mind and in the last year I only have one customer do that.

The process and scan to cloud (Google Drive) is now more popular than the process and scan to CD.

In the last 9 months, process and print (either 6x4 or 5x7) has made a big comeback.

Then the question that begs to be asked.... Why shoot film in this case????
I have wondered that a few times myself.
When i ask.?.......Because they HAVE Film Cameras and like to use them. :wondering:
There are some things i need to learn (I Know NOTHING) about the world of digital photography, so i will be taking a class at my local college in September. For 300-500 dollars i can get an older, but way good enough Digital SLR and lens.
Other than waiting for some garage sail gamble or gift from a relative, that is the cost of a Nikon F2, a CLA and a lens.
I sometimes wonder if people simply like to be able to say....."I shoot film".

Bob, I have learned years ago not to ask why (when it comes to the general public) because there is often no logic to the answer.

Everyday I see people with the latest iphone, but don't know how to use it. Thankfully they want to prints photos from their phone but showing them how to download an app can be a challenge.

As CMoore said

I agree.

I have noticed that some people shoot film and become good customers to my lab. Then suddenly they stop. I tried to figure it out but couldn't so I decided to ask why.
The answer (most of the time) was, we have moved on, as in we no longer shoot film, we are into something else.

If the negatives are being thrown away then there is absolutely no need to use film , Particular Look - not sure, economics - no- maybe I am getting too old but I do not get this practice.

Eventually I will get set back up to develop and print at home. There are things that digital does very well. But some times it’s just nice to do it the old way.

I seldom shoot color negative but I send my slide film to Dales Labs in Hollywood, Fl. So far, their work has been excellent. Before that I used Baboo in NYC but their service suddenly went downhill. Dales also does very good with color negative work for my daughter.
I used to use Dwayne’s until they returned my last roll of Kodachrome unprocessed in the last week they were processing it because they wouldn’t honor mailer rather than calling me or jut billing me. I should emphasize that I was not an infrequent customer. Dwayne’s management is more than incompetent. Dales provides good communication with customers.
I use Blue Moon for Minox Ektar...very polite and helpful store.
