I have some Fidelity film holders missing the hook locks (the part that keeps the slide from coming up). Is there anywhere where I can purchase replacements, short of cannibalizing old holders for them?

A guy I knew when he got a new batch of film holders, the first thing he'd do is take a pair of pliers and clip them all off, hehe.

It's basically just a piece of bent steel, isn't it? I'd be tempted to acquire a length of steel rod of approx. the appropriate diameter and make a simple rig to bend it; cut to length and hey presto. But perhaps that's too simplistic?

Option 2 - use a rubber band.

I always use an elastic band as well as the locks, simply because many locks don't stay in place and are easily knocked. The last thing you want to happen, is to accidentally move a darkslide while rummaging around with your film holders.
It gives me piece of mind and you can also use coloured bands for different film stock. They eventually need replacing but in the meantime they've saved a wad.

Don't waste your money. Rubber bands. Those hooks are pretty useless, at least they are on mine. I also keep the holders in large, zip lock type plastic bags. Keeps dust off, and another way to prevent accidental removal of the slides. Go to amazon dot ca.

If you must replace them with something like the original, a well stocked hardware store should carry "L" screws in various sizes.

Barring that, you can buy a mini "eye" screw and straighten-out the ring to make the L shape. Brass screws are easier to work with.

I have a holder around here somewhere that uses a half circle lock with ears that protrude upwards that only allows one dark slide to be removed at a time and it must be positioned precisely, or neither slide can be removed. It's actually pretty effective...

Office supply stores offer a choice of rubber bands.

I believe that only the old wooden holders had actual threaded screw hooks. Modern ones can be set onto the plastic structure in such a way as to spin feely, and cannot feasibly be replaced if cut off. Since they have been sold with hooks for 90 years, I presume someone besides me likes them. If you like them, buy a new set of holders 4x5's are cheapish and if you need 5x7 or 8x10 message me.

Forget those holders with swinging metal hooks, get the holders with internal locks (pressing the white "dot" releases dark slide).
