Andy,
Was there a reason for no prewash? Did you just want to see what would happen with no prewash. I can't wait for this stuff in 120 or even 4X5.

I gave a prewash the first time I handled this film (developed in D-76; link to video in the description). The water poured out clear, so I decided not to bother with the XTol developed roll... That is mainly because I don't like discoloured fixer 😁 . That may have contributed to the air bell issue in the XTol roll. I didn't get air bells on the D-76 roll, and I agitated it a few seconds each minute as with the XTol roll... I as well, would love to see P33 in 120, and sheet film sizes! Cheers!

I always do, but I use it replenished. If I don't pre-wash my films, I end up with all kinds of weird colors and junk in my Xtol-R (Adox XT-3).

That's the same reason I pre-wash some films, as mentioned in some of my videos. Discoloured replenished developers, two-bath developers, and even more important, fixer. CatLABS is notorious for turning Xtol-R and fixers a green that St. Patty would be proud of. I also pre-wash when shuffle developing sheet films in trays (which I rarely, rarely do). Anyways, Ferrania does not say to pre-wash P33 with the developers they have listed in their Best Practices section on their webiste. 🙂

Thanks for the video, Andrew. What surprised me was the seemingly very small difference in graín size between Xtol and D76 based on the famous Xtol characteristics diagram. Xtol wins on all counts but in reality it looks as if the enlargement needs to be very large to see the difference

Of course the diagram was largely visual without much if any in the way of measurements so maybe it is the case that other than developers that sit at the opposite ends of the scale in terms of grain, accutance etc there is much less to choose between them in terms of "looks" alone

I pre wash 120 film with anti halation layer only. Otherwise it comes coloured and contaminates the stop bath with its colour. With 135 film and Kentmere or Foma Ortho I see no need.
