I'm extremely glad to have found this site. My thanks to Les McLean for alerting the Editor at Black & White Photography mag, which is how I arrived here.

Although I wouldn't describe digital as evil, necessarily, I'm glad to have an all-film forum! I have an absolute passion for moody and expressive images, which is why I photograph exclusively in B&W. To me, film and darkroom work is magical -- maybe the only area of my life that is not controlled, at least in part, by a computer.

I'm not good at describing my work, so instead I'll add a link to my website. I'll have a brand new site any day now, but you'll get the general idea.

Again, it's great to have found you all, and I look forward to being very active on the boards.

Welcome Cheryl. Like yourself, I am a slave to the computer 90% of my life too. Very nice work on your site, can't wait to see the next version.

Welcome to the site Cheryl!

maybe the only area of my life that is not controlled, at least in part, by a computer.

Most of us know exactly how you feel!

I'm stuck at work every day administering a corporate email system. The thought of spending time on pc's making art is enough to make me ill...

I'm surprised the two of them haven't computerized the toilet yet.

Ahhh, maybe the two of them could figure out how to make the computerized toilets at the airport work properly! With all the technological marvels in the life today, you'd think they be able to make those things flush when you stand up, rather than when you sit down....

Welcome, Cheryl.

Speaking of toilets, I have an image of the one used on the recent space f;ights. Interesting design problems: *NO* gravity, no running water, absolute requirement for 100% effectiveness...

Heck of a way to welcome someone - with a description of toilet design.

Saw a new member 'Cheryl' and wondered if it was "that" one (from p/critique!) and yep! Welcome!

Welcome Cheryl, you will find this list interesting and more focussed than some.

95% APUG! Slowly weining myself away from p/c and p.net!

Welcome Cheryl, I'm glad that I was of some help. This is the best photo newsgroup on the net by a mile you'll get lots of good comment and help when needed.

I've just read your bit about Celein Dion, I think she has that affect on just about everybody.

Cheryl, I have just had a browse on your webgallery, and I absolutely love your photography.

I also just visited your web site .. and I agree ... a TON!! Wonderful work!

What is it about APUG that works as such a strong magnet for truly talented photographers?

It is difficult to critique anything here ... the "Bar" is set so high to begin with.
The "worst" here is so far above the "best" of so many of the other sites...

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Ed, I think the 'magnet' here is the sense of purpose. This site seems to encourage action and direction, and feels more geared to those who live and breathe pure photography than most of the other sites out there. Features like the print exchange push participants into action. I get the distinct impression that this is not a site that allows participants to rest on their laurels!

OK, enough of that.....

Welcome in, gbjerne.

Always nice to have new Scandinavians here

Welcome gbjerne. Look forward to your input to the site.
