Oh, since you're into street photography, get Vivian Maier's books, and while you're at it, get the video for Finding Vivian Maier. It's a fascinating look at the woman and the process of her discovery.

+1 on this recommendation. I am not a fan of most street photography but after seeing the video of Finding Vivian Maier and checking out more of her work it moved street photography up a few notches on my interest ladder.

A couple of standards on Art. Is Photography Art? It certainly can be if you want it to be so both these books are applicable.

"The Story of Art" by E.H. Gombrich

Not a book about photography at all. Infact only a couple of pages about photography but don't be put off by that. It's a must read for anyone wanting learn about how art has been used, since it's very first beginnings upto early 20th Century, to express and communicate an endless array of cultural topics and events which is wholly applicable to producing meaningful and expressive photographs today. You can take an awful lot from this book and it's a very easy read too. See reviews at amazon.

Then you might consider

"The shock of the New" by Robert Highes

This covers modern Art from its beginnings. It was a TV series first and as such is not so easily readable. Actually you can view the 8 episode series on YouTube if you prefer. Again, not about photography. It presents how culture and art has changed and as such it may imspire you how to use your photography to represent whatever it is you have to say about the world.
