Fast Processing of E-6

I usually take my slide film to Central Camera who sends the film to Kodak, who then take a week and a half to process the film. Is there any place that will do E-6 processing a bit faster for the impatient?

All I can say is that EK no longer processes E6 at Kodak Park from what I have been told, except for the release manufacturing tests.

Calypso Imaging in Santa Cruz, CA. They do 24 hour turn around, and their prices are hard to beat. I highly recommend them - in fact, I use them exclusively.

Have you considered doing your own E-6 at home with a table-top processor? E-6 processing takes about 45-55 minutes. Talk about a quick turnaround! Check out my older post on E-6 film processing here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I use a fully automatic Jobo ATL-1000 processor, however, you can use the popular semi-automatic Jobo's or even hand process if you like.

I would love to process my own E-6 film. It's just that a Jobo processor is expensive. I think I could rig up something using using a rubbermaid container with a water bath to keep the film warm. But not now. I want to do it sometime in the future.

Calypso looks interesting. Me thinks that if I include mailing the film to Calypso, and getting the slides mailed back it would take almost as long as it takes to get processed by Kodak.

That would depend upon how you mail them. It isn't unusual for me to mail slides to them on Monday, via USPS Priority Mail and receive the processed slides on Friday (if your order is over a certain amount, they will return FedEx for free). That is much faster than what you are getting from Kodak. Keep in mind, I live in Hawaii, and the mail is generally slower between here and the mainland that it would be from where you live.

The main time constraint is shipping...if you are willing to pay for fast shipping, you can have it next day from most labs. I work at Newlab in San Francisco and we get in film every morning that gets shipped out same day. Some go for the slow shipping, some go for Fed Ex overnight. It all depends on your needs/budget. I would be more than happy to help you out!

It's times like these that I consider myself very lucky.

I live but a short bus ride away from a lab that can do two rolls of 35 mm E-6 in about two hours.

It's so weird...just a few years ago there were SO many places to take E-6, now the lab I work in is the last one in San Francisco. It's not like it's a small city! I'm just hoping the roller coaster ride is almost over and things just level out and everyone can get what they need.

No, you don't have to setup an account. You can put the cc information on the form itself in the special instructions field, or do what I do - ask them to call for the cc number.

At risk of taking this off topic
I bought a used CPE-2 on ebay a few weeks ago for £100, and I've never looked back.
I'm using it for C41 film at the moment, but I intend to get the E6 stuff going shortly.
For C41, I can have dry negs in my hand in about an hour.
Ideally, you do need to batch process, but that's not really too much of a problem.

E6 takes a little longer, but I would guess that you could be mounting slides within a couple of hours of unloading the camera. Probably quicker than this if you were to use a proper drying cabinet.

Of course, there is the other advantage that you can take the executive decision to charge $/£0.00 for special services such as pushing, puling and cross-processing

I used to get my slides back in 2 days. Its not far from Central Camera
