I'm a little annoyed at the misleading statements made on KEH's website regarding the statement "Fast Cash/PayPal" and what reality actually is at KEH .

First, it was simply summed up with four little icons:

So I promptly packed up my gear, slapped on the FedEx label and tracked it as delivered to Georgia.
Tried to call today, *nobody* answered the phone, on any line, from 9am-10:30am.
Finally got through to find out about my quote and was told it would take like 10 business days before you hear *anything* and that they were shorthanded and it would take two weeks before they can get to it and act upon the quote!

I certainly don't consider that "Fast Cash or Payment via Paypal".

I've had good dealings with KEH, including some great repairs they have done on my behalf.

So I look at the website (fine print time) and there it is:

It's a shame that the KEH splash page says one thing ("Fast Cash/PayPal") but the fine print then says "up to 15 business days" in a tiny font that almost grayed out and hard to see.

IDK i think "fast cash" is kind of a euphemism that means "without expending much energy"
pretty much everything in life is a 2 week turnaround these days.
fine print is a drag, isn't it ? its like the guy in the radio ad that talks about 500MPH
sorry to read of your stress ..

Most folks' definitions of those descriptive icons, AKA 'variables' surely differ from those from vendors, AKA middlemen. For instance, I might have a lens which will sell on the auction site for US$300 but after fees I'll keep US$250. I'd guess most vendors won't offer more than US$150 for the same lens because they will have their funds invested for awhile, they could lose their investment completely, brick-and-mortar costs, employee salaries, taxes, etc. In fact, they'll likely offer even less than $150.

The pro to this is it's 'slightly' easier for someone who doesn't want to bother selling things himself. The con is less receiving money per item... it's up to us to decide what we prefer.

Keh doesn't pay much...period

...and aren't we all looking for those 'great deals' from the very same vendors we resent 'offering us too little' for our stuff? It's a 2-way street but most of us prefer 1-way streets going our way.

Then they should have written "hassle free cash".

maybe ...

on US ATM (bank machines) you put your card in,
type in your access code
and there are 4 options
deposit
withdrawal
transfer
fast cash

you push fast cash and it spits out $20
it means you don't have to say
withdraw, from checking (or from savings) "2-0.0-0"

hassle free+ fast

just like their purchase program
mail them the gear
and in 2 weeks you get $$ paypalled to you
i guess they think it is faster than:
craigs list
flea market
yard sale
garage sale
local camera shop ( are there any left where john doe lives? maybe, maybe not )
photographica shows ( once, maybe 2x a year? )
e'bay (customers can be a PITA )
etsy
convincing local friend
selling everything on apug or other photo sites where people can be bottom feeders ..
and who knows, it might be ,or it might take a lot longer ...
but to me its pretty fast considering most all the other options might take more than 2 weeks..
and then someone 3 weeks or 3 months later someone calls you and says " hey do you offer a money back guarantee, i decided i don't like film after all "
and then ... they post all sorts of hecktic stuff all over the internets about how you were fast to take the cash but slow on extended warrantees

I like KEH but I agree that 10-15 business days is not "fast" cash. At least in today's world.

If I needed cash faster than that I think I'd consider a pawn shop.

I take it to mean you can get "fast cash" once you've accepted their offer on your equipment. Their inspection can take 10-15 days. Once you accept, you'll get the cash quicker than waiting on a check.

The CEO (Joe C.) contacted me directly and oversaw my getting the service his company prides itself in.

The "fast cash" is when they are out on a buying spree at shows. They do not pay "top dollar", and you would make more money selling your blood.

If you want money, sell it yourself. If you want a choice of quality buy at KEH.

Two-way streets are a b**ch if not everyone is going your way.....

I believe it should depend on whether you're just selling, or if you're trading towards a purchase.

If you're trading, they should up the ante on your stuff.

However, if you're just selling, why not do it here? You'll certainly get more than KEH will offer...

I have a black Fuji XE2. KEH will buy it for $57-$148. KEH has a couple for sale for $379-$399. I think APUG or eBay would be the better way to go.

it might be better but ... will the cash be f-a-s-t?
that is the $275 question.

my neighbor had a problem a couple of years ago ...
he was offered f-a-s-t c-a-s-h for something, he naturally acceptetd, and the $$ was mailed to him ...
but when he opened the envelope the $$ escaped
he ran out in a busy street chasing it and then got hit by a car ... and his cash was run over too..
by the time he got it, the $$ was totally deflated not nearly as much as he wanted,
not even enuf to pay for the ibuprofen ...
