First, you'll have to forgive me. After five years you'd think I knew how to embed a picture into a thread, but, alas, um, nope. So . . .

Well, I got five of these holders a while back, Lord knows when and form whom. The looked rough. Darkslides travelled roughly in and out of the holders. But everything is more or less intact. On one of the holders one of the darkslide L screws is kinda bent but it is not jammed, just does not screw all the way down onto the slide.

So, I says to myself, self (I always call myself self when I talk to myself) I says, Self, why not try and spruce these bad boys up a bit.

So, today on my lunch hour I set to it. Worked a stiff brush through the slide and film grooves. Used some dust spray to bow them out. Got the darkslides feeling smooth.

Next to cosmetic. The aluminum that was exposed where the paint had rubbed off untold exposures and years past looked really bad. So I grabbed a pack of 320 grit half sheet sandpaper from the shelf and set to work. Got the whole thing down to bare aluminum within about 1/2 hour.

I then cut sheets of paper to slide into the slide grooves and a little roll of scotch tape in one end to hold the paper in place and to cover the inside of the holder. Did this for each side.

Then I got some mechanics wire and made a holder to cross between the two screws and then another piece so that I could hold the holder without actually touching it.

Got some Krylon Falt Black and sprayed the bottom first, then the sides, then the faces and finally the top. Not too heavy (no runs, got it right). Let it dry, et viola! One beautiful new looking film holder.

Now to get the other four.
