<--- Looking at my face -- no mask is going to keep fumes from coming thru that beard. A badly fitting mask can be worse than no mask -- thinking one is safe, one can expose oneself to the fumes.
Ventilation is almost worthless if fumes are allowed to pass one's head on their way out...no matter how many air 'changes' happen per hour.
After being retired for 8 yrs from managing a uni darkroom, I am beginning to be able to smell fixer again. My nose had numbed to it decades ago (unless it was concentrated.)
