I have the Automatic Film Rewind option set to 0, ie disabled.
Is it up to the user to to press the two rewind buttons when (s)he decides the end of the film has arrived, ie by number displayed, eg say 36, or can you ‘sneak’ a shot or two more more and the camera will detect the tension and then rewind, or will the advance mechanism rip the film sprockets in an attempt to keep on shooting?
Hope that makes sense.

I have my F100 set to zero to disable that feature. The camera winds until it feels a certain tension and stops. It has never ripped the sprocket holes or torn the film from the cassette

Does the F100 have the automatic film rewind feature? That is it automatically rewind the film when it finishes the roll? I thought it only just stop.

My F4 will wind on after 36 exp (or after 24 if I use that load) It has never torn the sprocket holes, but there again I manually rewind the F4 anyway.

That’s good to know.
Film was loaded as per the instructions (leader to the red mark) and now I’m on frame 37 of a 36 exp film. At this point it occurred to me that I had auto rewind disabled and I wondered if the motor advance would continue to advance until something unpleasant happened.
What I find confusing is the tension sensing auto re-wind compared to the default setting of user initiated rewind, (CS 1 default setting 0). In the default setting, does the motor advance stop when tension is detected, and remains in that state until the user presses the two rewind buttons?

Yes mine just stops even if it begins to wind to another frame. If it can not wind all the way for another frame then the shutter is not cocked. I get 37 frames from most makes of film and sometimes 38, but not very often.

To draw this thread to a close.

With Auto Film Rewind set to default 0 in Custom Menu 1, when the camera detects that the film has come to an end (37 in my case under discussion) it displays END and does not attempt to wind on a last ‘sneaky‘ frame.
This is my first test role, but so far I’m happy with the F100, apart from the plastic back, and more especially the plastic locking mechanism.
