I just bought me a Nikon F100 the other day and everything worked fine until today, where the focus selector suddenly doesnt let me assign the focus to the left.

All other areas can be assigned with no problem, just the left doesnt work. To be clear, the selector can be moved mechanically to the left with no problem but it does not show that the left focus field has been assigned, not in the viewfinder or display.

Any idea what this could be? Thanks

Bad contact and/or switch in the film door. Typical fault of these bodies.

Thanks for the info, could you elaborate the switch in the film door and how it plays a role in this?

Isn't the focus selector switch assembly itself installed on the film door? There is also a group of contacts just below the film pressure plate.

My old f100 had the same problem. It seemed worse after sitting in the car over a cold night. I never did get it working consistently but I think you can set the focus point selection to wrap in custom settings (number 6). Then you can just keep going right and it will wrap around back to the left side.

Thank you so much, that helps a lot!
