I just got a nice (and cheap!) Sekonic L-488 Digi Spot from a local listing, and I was trying it out at home. Everything is working well, but the manual could not clarify exactly the meaning of the fractional f-stop half-wheel besides the EV readout.

For example, if my LCD gives me EV 8 and the wheel is at the halfway point, does it mean that the light is EV 8.5 or 7.5 ?

My deduction is 7.5. Can anyone confirm?

I only know these meters from catalogues but rather would interprete it at firtst glance as f8.5 ...
No, doesn't make sense... that would be a quarter circle...

(The catalogue says about the display: fstop + 0.9AV; thus a `full´half-circle would be the next fstop, a quarter circle would thus mean indicated fstop´+ 1/2fstop.)

Why are displays ambiguous? And think about those frame indicators on cameras; are they counting up or down...?

If the meter is in EV mode and it displays EV8 and the wheel is at the middle it should be EV8.5.
