Extreme Pull Processing HP5

Due to a metering problem, and my lack of attention, I inadvertently exposed some Ilford HP5 4x5 at ISO 50 instead of ISO 400. To make matters worst the light was pretty flat. The Ilford processing chart doesn't go that extreme for pulling so I am hoping someone can offer some advice in trying to pull the film to salvage what I can. I only have Ilford Iflotec-DD-X and Pyrocat HD developers. Any help would be appreciated.

That is pulling not pushing and no I do not have the answer.

hp5 has a very long straight line, more than 14 stops. So all you have done is slide everything up the curve. You have not made the curve steeper or shallower, you only do that by changing development.

In other words you can develop as normal and you will get your normal contrast negative the difference being that everything will be three stops up the curve from normal but should print just fine, albeit requiring somewhat longer print times than usual.

In this case all you have really done add extra exposure not truly over exposed the film, this "exposure latitude" is one of the things I enjoy most about shooting negative film.

If an important portion of your image falls on the shoulder, that is too bad and non-correctable. Analogy: Taking a photograph with the lens cap in place.
