Okay, thanks guys. I've seen a 100 w 250v superba BC Krypton (G-250-100BC) mushroom globe for about $3. I'll give that a go.

Hmm...don't know about that unless it suggests a 'mushroom' style in the owner's manual. You may run into problems with evenness of illumination with the wrong shape bulb.

I'd go with a "PH" series bulb in 75 or 150W.

BTW I have seen pictures of the Durst 659 and it looks like a fantastic enlarger.

okay, i'll steer clear of the mushroom. here in australia we call bulbs 'globes'. the globe i used last night fit the bill, but it just didn't seem to make enought difference.

Separated by a common language, again.

Learned something again. In the US (well, midwest anyway), people refer to 'globes' when they are taking about those tiny spherical light bulbs.

I was always told to try the medium aperture for an enlarging lens, in most cases f/8. Adjust time accordingly. According to the multicontrast filter the time will vary. If I remember correctly the normal exposurer time for 35mm to 8x10 is roughly 7 to 10 seconds. It's been many years since I been it the "wet room" so don't count on me for the proper advice. Just play around, experiment! Most of all have fun!

It is also possible your negs are a little on the thin side & you may want to do a film speed test to find the best speed for your particular situation.
You should be able to find one by searching the forums.

Some years ago I (an American), a product manager from some place in England, and an manufacturing engineer from India were trying to work on a product roll-out. It quickly became apparent that when we used the same words, we did not necessarily mean the same thing.

I have been using diafine for most of my developing lately, and this does give a thinner neg. I think I'll just stop down to f11 or f16 to try to lengthen the exp. time when I want to do some dodging and burningl

We had a Brit come over to our Detroit office once, and he asked the secretary if he could pinch one of her sweets. Of course he meant from the candy jar on her desk, but she thought he had something else in mind.

At least he did not ask her for a fag, a cigarette in brit speak.

Either one would cause a big HR problem is the states, as would asking someone after a meal were they stuffed? !

I'd like to say a big thank you for all the advice i received in this thread. I just received some new 75w globes today, and it has done the trick. my exposures are between 7 to 25 seconds, depending on the neg and the MG filter - all with a aperture of f8.

Now it's time to learn about f/stop timing!
