I just went to use some home made TF-3 fixer the other day to clear off some film scraps so I can throw them out. When I poured it out, it was pink and cloudy with small grey chunks at the bottom. It had also lost it's ammonia smell. As I let it sit, it turned yellow. It seemed to clear off the film scraps just fine.

It was mixed as a working solution on 10/2023, and it had been used for 4 rolls of film. I hadn't been used for many film rolls since I was using it as the second bath for two bath fixing with TMax. I had switched it to the primary bath once my TF-4 fixer had run out. A second bath of working solution was mixed up at the beginning of this year, and it's still clear and smelling like ammonia.

Is this was happens to TF-3 fixer when it gets too old? This is the first time I've had something like this happen with any fixer.

Irrespective of the number of films, that is too long. See below from Ilford documentation. Yes, it is a different fixer, yes, the manufacturers are conservative, but still you were pushing the life of your fixer too long.
