I'm considering a Nikkor 240/5.6 as a slightly wide lens for 8x10". I mainly shoot landscapes, so most of my work is at infinity. According to the Nikon brochure it will cover ( image circle 336mm @F22).

Can anyone with real world experience comment on the coverage, and if it's enough for typical landscape type photography with movements? There doesn't seem to be a lot of margin for movements, so I was wondering if it's enough, or if it will cover but the corners will be soft if I'm using all the coverage? If so, then I'll step up to a 300mm.

I have that lens, and have shot it on the Sinar and the Tachihara. I've not noticed any degradation at the corners

I've found that Nikon is generally conservative on their IC specs, showing only the non-degraded coverage circle.

The 336mm IC is going to give you minimal movements on 8x10.

As it turns out a friend of mine has one of the F6.7 lenses. I'll see if I can borrow it the next time we are together. Assuming he can find it, as he is in the process of moving.

Another option to consider is the smaller Fujinon 250mm f6.7 (not the f6.3 version).
It uses a smaller shutter (Copal/Seiko 1) and has a large image circle of almost 400mm.
It's a very good lens on 8x10.

I own this lens. The Fujinon 250mm F/6.7 was also extensively used by Jock Sturgess. Great performer and inexpensive too. Fuji claims an image circle of 398mm. I paid $300 for mine and lately I've seen a few sell for around $250. That's cheap for a great 8x10 lens. They are single coated if that matters to you. It shouldn't.
