For the past year I've been looking at the 150 f3.5 for my pentax 645,waiting on the right priceand condition when spare money was available. Finally decided on exc grade with caps from keh for $ 104 till I saw one on the bay no bids at 75 including caps . Bid the minimum and won paid sunday and now waiting for it . Now I'm killing myself second guessing wheter saving the $ 30 is worth it and won't know till it gets here saturday or monday . Well at least he has a 14 day return policy if it's not as good as it looked in the ad.

Return policies make me feel much better about a purchase. Although sometimes I'll make an impulse buy at 2am and wonder wtf I was thinking when the item finally comes in the mail.

Example: I recently got a 4' x 5' Canadian flag off ebay. No idea why, it sounded like a good idea at the time

1) It is KEH so you can return it.
2) Yes, but I got over it and was happy later. One time there was a problem with a camera not from KEH but the seller was honest and tested, then he gave me the money back.

Well my worst ebay purchase was from a member of this forum, 4 lens boards not one the fit he described (don't worry he and his alter egos are banned now), apart from that every other purchase has been as described and usually better apart from 2 Speed Graphics - but that'sa lomg story and I came out of it far better than the seller would have expected :D

So don't worry . . . . . . . . .

Yeah, I do it a lot. "What was I thinking" is a good phrase. I've sold/donated a lot of gear these last three years that I'd bought the previous two; more than I've kept. Financially I've lost on all of those purchases. But, ya know, when I get gas I get it bad.

The 150 manual focus lenses go cheap on ebay, always for less than $100.00. You are most likely fine and that's $30.00 saved that you can put towards film.

What a bargain for a great lens!

Every single time I use flash, at some stage I either stumble over the synch cord, or it falls of, or I forget to put it in the camera. Last night I splurged on two PocketWizard Plus II's on Ebay for 250 bucks. Now that I am anxiously waiting, I wonder what I was thinking and if they will prove worth their substantial cost.

Never seconded guessed myself but always wondered what the heck I was doing buying MORE gear when I don't have time for what I do have.

Rhcgn, you will NOT regret those PocketWizards.....I have the cheap knockoffs and simply do not know what I would be doing without them other than cussing over the sync cord or catching a camera and tripod falling over. This Christmas I was able to truly concentrate on the pictures and not the equipment for the first time thanks to those wireless flash triggers.....well worth the money.

In the U.K. for that kid of money($75) it would be called a "steal" as in "stolen" - "fell off the back of a lorry, Guv" as they would say in a Hollywood version of London

Seriously I have never seen a 150 f3.5 go for anything like as cheap a price as that. 645 lens retailers like KEH who are based in the U.K. would want closer to $240/250, more than twice KEH's price

Are you folks the other side of the pond beginning to realise why in matters analogue we Brit APUGers feel so hard done by?

Pentaxuser, they usually go for $120 to 180 at keh depending on conition and yep at 75 it does feel like a steal. I tend to get nervous dealing with ebay if I haven't dealt with the person before. Keh I've always felt like I got my moneys worth at least between the normaly conservative grading great service and the warranty is hard to beat, it's why I usually buy from them. well I tracked the lens in question and it should show up here late tomorrow or at worst friday, depending on how slack the post office is.

Sure have.. I've been on a Rollei kick for awhile. I caught up in a moment of spontinanity.. Bought a older version Rollei from Canada on the Bay. I felt I over paid for it after I got it. I since recooped the money. It just puts sour feeling in your stomach when you second guess these type of purchases. The only thing that was cool, was it came up close up filters, that I'm hoping I can use with my T model when I get it back from Harry Fleenor. The camera.. I might give it my daughter when gets older.

Don't bother trying to photograph "the end" with your new lens... you won't be here to process the film. Do something more productive as a final gesture!

I love the SMC-A 150mm f/3.5 on my Pentax 645N. It is a great portrait lens! A few months ago I bought a Mamiya 7 with 65mm and 80mm lenses on the spur of the moment for $1200 on eBay... I regretted it until the camera arrived and I saw the awesome image quality. Now, I think I got a pretty fair deal!

Regards,

Kent

I hate to say it, but life is more important than wringing your hands over $30. Money is important, but it's not that important.

And by the way, digital tends to bring out all of the flaws. Little nicks or marks look like huge gouges.

Just ask a woman if she'd like to be photographed in high-def.

I've gotten deals, and I've probably paid too much on occasion, although not too often. In the end, I'd rather live my life than worry about a few dollars here and there.

By the way, this probably explains why I'm often broke.

elekm, , it was more like would it be in good working condition as the more expensive one from keh . hell i was quite willing to buy the keh one just lucked into the ebay lens. And as far as digital and flaws since I don't own anything digital much less a 645d it's not my concern.

Congratulations on a good purchase. I find that lenses for my Mamiya 645 Pro TL are so cheap that I often can't resist and thus have ended up with quite a few. To date I have acquired the 35/3.5N, two versions of the 45/2.8, 55/2.8, 80/1.9, 80/2.8, 80/4M, 110/2.8, 150/4, 210/4, 300/5.6 and the 2X TC, and paid less than $100 for every one of them... (some were in fairly rough condition but they all work fine). But then, come to think of it, I got the whole camera (AE Finder, 120 back, mirror box and power winder) for about $100 so this system is clearly one of my best buys!

Yeah, I recently bought a 80mm f5.6 for my Fuji GX680 on ebay while I'm still underway, working on a container vessel and it seems like the seller is an idiot, the communication is very bad and he sent the lens to my own adress, even though I told him to send it to my neighbour's house.
Don't know what made me order stuff that I can't use for another 2 months -.-...

If you paid by PayPal, he would lose any protection if he posted to any other address other than the confirmed address on the PayPal account, I also wouldn't have sent it to an address other than the confirmed address if I didn't know you and you were just a buyer from ebay. Prior to the Auction, I might have been prudent to have asked if he could hold it for you until your return.

Perhaps you should read the PayPal rules and understand them before bidding.

I didn't pay by PayPal... So I guess this is not the case... Well anyway, I'm not that angry that he sent it to the wrong address, because time is obviously not the problem. The problem is that it takes weeks for him to answer :/ and that I blame myself for spending 240 Euros on an item which I can't use right now -.-

My apologies, I just read my previous post and it reads a little harshly. If you did not pay by Paypal then there is no reason to have not sent it to where you requested. Hopefully you are not in the UK as if so and you can't get someone to collect it for you they will have returned it to sender before you get home.
