...I think. Just saw this news story about the king and his wife expecting their first child: click.

What impressed me most was the TLR hanging 'round his neck. I wish I had had mine with me when I met him almost 5 years ago - I had arrived in Bhutan the day the massive earthquake and tsunami hit Japan in 2011, and met the king the next day when I was visiting Thimphu Dzong (he was there to say prayers for the Japanese victims). Of course, none of us were allowed to take pictures when he was around.

It is well known that Bhutan measurers its happiness index. Probably, shooting film increases Bhutan's Gross National Happiness Index a bit, even if it is just the king who shoots.

The Bhutanese royal couple were a huge thing in Thailand during some visits here a few years back. For a while, you couldn't see any media in Thailand anywhere without seeing their faces. Quite a photogenic couple I've always thought and to be fair, if you are married to a woman that looks as good as she does...you really should shoot her on a Rolleiflex!

I agree, the queen is stunning - the royal couple came to Japan a couple of years ago and there was a big to-do about that here too.

The king reminds me of a Bhutanese Elvis, and I have to admit I was quite star-struck when I met him, even though I had never seen a picture of him up that point.

Interesting. He was a friend of my nephew in the Geography Dept here at UCB a number of years ago, where they studied together awhile.
A bright well-educated fellow.

Didn't Leica make a special edition for him or something ?

We should invite him to join APUG.

A new collocation for the English language altogether, I can honestly say that I've never seen the words 'Bhutanese + Elvis' appear at the same time before! Yes, he's quite a good looking fellow too I think.
