Fellow Apuggers,
I got a second-hand ever-ready case for my OM2sp the other day. However, it seems to have developed a severe case (no pun intended) of mange. The black shiny outer covering seems to be flaking off, exposing the white padding underneath. Any ideas on how I can remedy this? Maybe boot polish perhaps? Many thanks, BLIGHTY

blighty,
Many of the Oly cases shed their skin. It's as though the plastic coatinig just falls off. I don't know anything that cures it.

That's it in a nutshell, John. I'm not bothered how crappy a repair would look as long as it works ok. Anyway, thanks for your input. Regards, BLIGHTY

I have a case my Canon QL 1.7 that is peeling, I bought a bottle of black faberic paint at a crafts store, not perfect but helps.

The " never ready cases " for my Canon FTb, and A1 have done the same, I used some black leather dye, then treated them with hide food to soften them, they look O.K. now I don't know how long it will last before they start moulting again, but since I haven't used them in nearly twenty years, I'm not going to worry.

g'day Blighty
i wouldn't bother even using the 'never' ready case
they were a bad idea from the start, they promote fungus by not letting the camera air out
the leather ones were grossly worse
besides they are not necessary for camera protection

Howdo Ray! Yep, I'm a-thinking consigning the erc to the bin. Its dandruff has got even worse since my last post. It's a shame 'coz when you want to travel light and have your camera ready quickly, they're ideal. Looks like I'll be using my old CCS case (again). Cheers

I used to sell Olympus equipment in a photographic shop Blighty, and I seem to recall that that made a soft black leather lined with velvet (not plastic coated) E.R.C. that you could put in your pocket, when not in use, I remember once ordering one from Olympus for a customer, and thinking how much more useful it was than the normal E.R.C. It may be worthwhile to try and find one.
