Three pages and I still don't know what you are selling and for how much.

Bob - I'm looking forward to seeing what you're listing when you get there. As a potential buyer, I'd note that I love the idea of you setting out what your thoughts might be on the value of each piece and then allowing offers to flow; it at least gives us a place to start.

I'm not very good at that kind of thing either. When I sell I generally sell for less than what things are "worth" to move them, but what intriques me more-and-more is hte idea of setting ebay price at 99 cents and seeing where it goes. Auctions I watch like htat are often a lesson in reality.

I did that once on a item I thought would sell around $100 or so. It went for 99 cents.

:-( Lesson learned.

I've had it go both ways.

I do though find that the 99 cent start works well and that it is rare for me to be able to get more than what Ebay can get me.

The lesson for me on most things is simply what the real market value is.

If you want the best price that an item is likely to sell for, & don't want a price likely to bring criticism, you going to have to invest some time investigating actual recent sold prices. Its a given that sentimental sellers always price to high, buyers always want a deal. Its an ugly business at times, selling. Good luck.

thanks something I am not good at , I sell my printing services now trying to sell equipment seems to be a huge hassel.

"Sold" prices on ebay vary widely with no apparent difference in item or quality (there may, of course, have been info exchanged via message between buyer or seller). And there are some apparent "sold" prices that defy reason. Personally, I use ebay as a last resort when Apug, LFF, and Craigslist fail.

I no longer do auctions on ebay; I list a "fixed price" and accept offers. There typically is no cost to list. They and paypal take a good chunk out of the final value. But even selling here you'll end up paying paypal fees and (if you choose) a small % to apug. So I figure ebay ends up costing me about 10% on average; the actual depends a bit on value of the item. On ebay I tack on a buck or 2 to shipping to make up for the fees on shipping that ebay charges.

To me, as buyer, items known to be working properly from someone who is knowledgeable are worth a premium. But you won't get that premium on ebay. You will here where you're known.

I don't know if being in Canada will help or hurt. On the one hand, the large US market will incur larger international postage charges. On the other hand, your Canadian colleagues won't have to pay larger postage cost as they often have to do buying in the US.

As to price, as others have said you can research on ebay. If it's something that is tested and working, you can feel fair asking the ebay price or even a bit more. If you're wrong on price, knock it down after a while. We won't stick pins in dolls that look like you for doing that.

BTW, I remember seeing a regular contributor here list an item at a price I thought was clearly high. So high, I even thought a friendly PM might be in order but I kept my mouth shut. It sold in a day or 2. So, while we each have an opinion, it doesn't mean we're right. A fair price is when it's value to the buyer and to the seller overlap.

That would be appreciated thanks I will tee you up.

Bob,

Paulette (I think that was her name) has my deets. I had the Lambda prints made from the 6x17 negs so she should be able to dig up the info, otherwise I can send it pm.
