Epson V800 and V850

Hi All,

Does anyone have any real world experience yet with the new 800 and 850 series scanners? I am thinking about upgrading to one of the Epson flatbed scanners from my Plustek 8200i so I can scan medium and large format negatives and slides.

I know the V700 and V750 series had great reviews and respect in the analog photography world. But, newer does not always mean better. So, I am looking for some real-world opinions and experiences. If possible, high-res samples showing positive or negative experiences (pardon the pun) would be greatly appreciated.

my new 850 got here about two weeks ago to replace my aging 1680. idk much about the 8200i but the 850 will do better than the 1680

Using a v750 with v850 holders.
Had a Plustek 8200 Ai before. Never touched the plustek again.

Thanks, definitely the kind of feedback I was looking for.

Any chance you have some rescanned images so I have the same negative or slide in a side-by-side 8200i vs 750 comparison?

I probably do if I look for one.

I can tell you right now v750 is much sharper than the plustek but by far not as sharp as a frontier scan.
Slides work well on both.
Negatives are much better on the v750.
Plustek sees reds and yellows wrong. Frontier makes reds orange. Some people like that.
V750 with silverfast does a nice job in terms of colors but it's not a coolscan or Noritsu. Just keep that in mind.

The Epson not a holy grail scanner.

None of those options can handle 4x5, however. Does anyone have experience with a better 4x5 solution, excluding of course crazy expensive drum scanners or the Hasselblad X5?

Get the wet-mount kit for the Epson.
