I purchased this scanner secondhand.
I am trying to use it with a win10 laptop.
It didn't come with software.
I have contacted epson but they say there are no drivers available due to the age if the product.
Can anyone suggest where I can get a setup disk or driver for this scanner.
I have also read that software fir the 1680 model can be used.

a win10 laptop.

Are you running x86/32 bit or x64/64 bit? This makes a difference. If it's x86, you may be able to install any version of Epson Scan that you can find (search online, still available from several Epson websites). If it's x64, there may be no driver for this particular model.

Okay, so have you tried it and what did you run into?

Vuescan claims it will work with this scanner on Windows 10 with no additional driver.

I have an Epsom Perfection V500. Is that similar?

The original installer disk won't be very useful, because Microsoft upgraded security for Windows 10, and again for W11, and this broke Epson's older drivers. So I'd try installing a current version of Epson Scan (which includes a driver) and see if that works for your older model. Although I did find download links for your particular model, they all point to old versions of the software, circa 2007. One way or another, the old hardware should still be usable.

Vuescan provides it's own driver, which is mostly a good thing, but it will cause a conflict if you also have the Epson driver installed.

If the problem is related to this driver being 'unsigned' - this can be bypassed/temporarily disabled on both Win10 and Win11. If the problem is that the original driver will only work on an x86/32bit system, then this won't help.

That's a great suggestion in fact since Vuescan essentially uses its own built-in drivers so you're not bound to whatever the manufacturer may or may not have made available.
