Epson 4490 with Epson Soft ware

Hey all I've had this scanner for quite a while and Ive learned the ins and outs of the scanner , but the results that I am getting dont look great . I'm scanning a roll of 120 6x6 with the epson holder . And the images look patchy

The image you posted on my monitor appears to be of very low resolution and almost as if there are fingerprints on the film. I have an"ancient" Epson 4870 and with SilverFast Studio software and the Epson film holders that came with it I get excellent sharp scans from 120 and 4x5 negatives (usually set at their 1200 or2400 ppi settings). I get excellent prints up to 16x20 with an Epson 3880 printer. I haven't used the Epson Scan software but if that is the problem you might check if VueScan or SilverFast has a free trial and see if that makes a difference. Possibly uninstalling and reinstalling your Epson software might help.

Like Jeffrey said the resolution is set too low. You can see the pixels on your photo. I set mine at 2400bpi. Also, jpegs should not be too condensed. Otherwise you get to many artifacts what Jeff calls fingerprints.

I use Epsonscan software with my Epson V600 scanner. What I do when I scan is to save as a TIFF file. My 6x7 TIFF files runs about 225MB when I scan at 48 bit color. You'll probably create about 175mb files for 6x6. I'll only create the jpeg after I've done all the adjustments in Lightroom or Photoshop Elements and I'm ready to save the jpeg file. Good luck.
