I have a problem with my Epson scanner. There are some strange random lines in scans ( I scan b&w film only) they run only in one direction (horizontally when facing opened scanner) they seem to appear always at the same spot/spots. I have tried to clean glass and all parts inside and out, reinstall the software, nothing helped so far. Anybody has an idea what the problem might be? Thanks August 2012010.jpg

It is possible that the calibration area is dirty, or the film holder to close to it. I had colored lines with my V500 when I placed film holder so close to it.
It is a tiny square on top of the scanner glass. Hope it helps.

thank you guys, I tried even to rotate the glass bed of the scanner today, thinking that there are some scratches . It didn't work. I made one observation though , lines aren't there in lower resolution scans , but multiply when I scan in higher resolution. I have no idea what does that mean or where is the root of the problem. I guess I'll be shopping for new scanner soon. V500 from Epson is inexpensive but I was kind of hoping I could make my old one work.

Hm, I did have a similar problem with my old flatbed. I guess warranty service is out of the question for some time now (did the problem start appearing just now)?

I would try juggling cables first if you have some spares - which, although a long shot, is worth a try - before you start contemplating buying a new one.

Does this happen with negative scans and reflected scans? Has there been a software update? Possibly deleting the scanner plist and restarting? Turn off all the "auto" functions of the scanner. Try a trial version of different scanner software. Call Epson.
