I just wanted to follow up on this thread. I have installed QTR and have it adjusted for my workflow and although there are still some pizza wheels on the film, they do not show in the print. Thank you everyone that has helped with this. Also, it is nice to know that one can always front load the Pictorico from the front, if you have the room.

Sidney et al

I tried the front manual feed slot on the Epson 3800 and it worked nicely. I simply taped the Pictorico OHP to a sheet of 7 mil mylar with litho tape. It worked perfectly for me. The front manual load definitely eliminates any problem of pizza wheel marks.

Much nicer mechanism than on the HP b9180.

Thanks to Sidney for posting about this.

Sandy

I wanted to mention that my pizza wheel problem vanished as soon as I started using the sheet feed support at proper extension and PK inks instead of MK inks. Not sure which had more impact, started doing both at the same time. I'm embarrassed to admit how long it took me to realize that the telescoping sheet feed support was even there.

Colin,

I will just throw in that I have not had any pizza wheel marks with the 3800 using the MK inks and the back sheet feeder. I hope to switch over to the PK inks to see if I can get less grain with carbon, but unfortunatley don't have much time for this right now as I am working hard to finish an article on the B&S carbon symposium for View Camera and need to get it done before I leave for China in mid-September.

You sure have a full plate! I'm very much looking forward to seeing the article. And I'm quite envious of your trip to China. Hope you have a great visit.

Use the front end loader with the included cardboard as a backing and all will be will. No pizza wheels result when using the front end loader. (Note you do not need to tape Pictorico to the backing just align it well and gently insert in through the front-end loader.) Be aware that the QTR profile you are using will change by using the front end loader, so start by using the front-end loader rather that the rear. I also find that I have a high success rate of first time alignment, whereas using the rear it has often required multiple attempts to get the printer to accept the film as properly aligned.
