My favorite Holmes & Watson, even if not quite canonical (and I mean the movies set in the right time period).
How did you find that? I'd never have noticed.

Now that is why the Norden bomb sight was such a great secret during World War II.

I've been printing with my Norden Bomb sight for years. I have that exact same model. Got from Harry Taylor, proprietor of Classic Norden Bomb sights

My father assembled those during the war. But wait, what do I see? Arid chaparral in verdant England? Those Hollywood film editors, what a bunch of jaspers...

Is that a DeHavilland Mosquito? Plane made of wood.

No. The Mosquito was tiny and had a two-man cockpit. Why was the 'boffin' using an Omega enlarger and how could he hear instructions without a headset? Very odd continuity throughout - isn't the aircraft taking off a completely different type to the one in flight (a Wellington?)? And the low level pass is seconds before the aircraft is at about 10000 feet?!

An amazing property of this sight is that it not only provides an
aerial view of the target ...

... but a ground level view at the same time!

I'm amazed at how much England looks so much like Southern California when the bombs hit.

I'm wondering if the details of the actual bomb sights were still classified when the movie was made.

I love the ground level view. I have never seen that in a fire control system. Does the Pentagon now have this capability? Interested readers want to know!

They're just going to destroy it

Unfortunately StarWarnistas made getting Graphic flashgun much hard to find and much more expensive. Damn them all to Hell.

Just for a friggin prop.

I saw a toy light saber a few years ago in a store. It had all the outlets and buttons that you'd find on the Graphic flash handle represented pretty faithfully.
:munch:

The enlarger makes another appearance about 45 minutes into the full length feature... this time as a UV light source to reveal pencil impressions of the encrypted note that Moriarty stole...

But what I'm wondering... Did Moriarty die in this episode when he fell into the sewer?

I have the flu today and stayed home from work. Right now on GetTV, this Sherlock Holmes movie is being played.

I think we are supposed to believe he died in the fall, but I believe they both fell to their deaths before in The Final Problem. Also, when you consider both he and Holmes were born in the 1850s (if not earlier) and neither look like they have aged much by WWII, I suspect there is something "superhuman" involved.

No. Professor Moriarty (played by Lionel Atwill) resurfaces three years later in "The Woman in Green," this time played by actor Henry Daniell.

But, the Professor takes another fall at the end of this film, this time from the roof of a high building. Splat.

Supposedly Conan-Doyle killed off both Moriarty and Holmes (by falling in to a waterfall) because he was fed up with writing the stories. Since then they have been regenerated multiple times . . . maybe that's in the same way as Doctor Who, which I used to watch from behind the sofa, many decades ago. I don't remember noticing a magic enlarger in those episodes though.

So like a bad pennies or a bad checks Moriarty and Holmes just keep coming back.
