This weekend I'm gonna go to the flee market and see what I can find there... Portuguese people are very attached to their money and never let go of anything for free.
My main problem is that I'm not much of a people's person... I'm really shy and don't talk much, so it doesn't help to make people realize I'm actually interested in this or that subject... *sigh*

good luck and let us know of any `finds'.
Let them do the talking, you do the listening, the one that talks to you and not at you is the person who maybe will have the most help.
Very few people anywhere let go of anything for free these days, could be worse ~ say, Scotland for instance:D
Also why not try ebay france? go to ~photo, camescopes. accessoires photo. matereriels de labo.
I have pasted a printing link you may be interested in.
regards

I've been trying ebay from different countries (this Durst enlarger I'm trying to get is from ebay Germany). Anything outside Europe isn't worth the shipping costs...

I was already familiar with that site  it's pretty informative and easy to understand. I have a bunch of those sites plus a few books that I'm reading when I have time (why do people have to work 9 hours a day?)

I'll let everyone know if I saw anything interesting in the flee market tomorrow!

Well, back from the flee market...

I saw lots of old cameras, but only one enlarger... It was a Meopta Axomat 5 for 25 Euros. It was a bit rusty on the head and there was no way of knowing if the bulb worked... I quicky went online on my mobile to check its specs and saw that it can only handle 35mm and black&white, but even with that I was willing to give it a chance. After all, it was the cheapest I had seen so far and from a well known brand...

But then it started raining...

And the enlarger was left there in the rain, like it wouldn't matter and as if the guy who was selling it didn't even think it would make a difference if it got wet. Who knows how many times that enlarger had already been soaked... poor machine...

So yeah, I'm back to square one on this matter...

I think rain might have been a blessing. You do not want an enlarger that have been standing in the rain. Not even for 25€.
You will find another one.

http://www.marktplaats.nl

3 Durst M605 enlargers at the moment: Eur. 50,- till Eur. 80,- incl. optics.

Well I just sold a Durst Laborator 1200 with Multigraph incl. all Femoboxes 35mm, 66, 69 and 4x5" incl. Rodenstock optics 50mm, 80mm and 150mm for Eur. 650,-

But these enlargers are impossible to ship: above 50kg and 160cm in lenght or so.

Transport outside Europe is indeed out of the question. Too expensive and heavy.

Try: Kienzle, Dunco II 67, Durst M605/805 M670, Meopta (Magnifax, 69) or Kaiser.

If you have a big problem I can handle one on Marktplaats (also from E-Bay) and sent one to you in Portugal if you want to pay for the higher transport costs.

The rest can be done via PM.

Best regards,

Robert

hi silence

i have an m601 ..
like the one you like but older
without a color head ...

the negative carrier ( if like mine ) is glass and has
a cropping thing in it, so you can use 6x6, or smaller film you just move
the arms to crop off the part you don't want in your view ...
i have never seen accessories for mine ( haven't looked really )
but a 50mm and 90mm lens just screw into the same lensboard
( unscrew one to put in the other )

nice enlarger, good luck with the bidding!

Well, back from the flee market...
(my emphasis added)

Silence:

I seem to recall that you apologized for your English in your introduction post here on APUG.

I think you must have been kidding us a bit, because this is a very funny pun

Good luck in your search!

One question - do you still have newspapers in Portugal that have classified ad sections, including "wanted" ads? If so, and if the ads aren't too expensive, an ad might be worthwhile.

Community notice boards might be a good place to post a notice to.

Matt: That was totally unintentional... I really mispelled flea  (maybe I shouldn't have said this and let you keep thinking I'm so witty...)

We do have those newspapper ads, and also on online newspapers, for free... I have also been checking them out. But as said before, I only find expensive stuff. Even yesterday I saw a Meopta Axomat 5, just like the one in the rain, on the newspaper, and the guy was asking 250 Euros... what a rip off!

Pakeha: I just used "shy" 'cause I didn't want to say antisocial  I have very good (and dark) humour... I just don't play well with others in real life

Meopta Axomat 5

As you can see, it's free of charge on Dutch Marktplaats. All these low end enlargers have the price of 2x the metall price.

Only enlargers like M605, M670, M805 you can have around Eur. 100,- and only Leitz V35, Kienzle, Dunco can bring a few hundred while the top enlargers like DeVere, Durst Laborator, Kienzle etc. can bring more when being in a good shape.

Shipping an enlarger in parts to Portugal will be about the same price of the enlarger itself. Well I gave you some prices for TNT to Lisboa.
Further is a shipment bigger then a M605, Dunco or V35 a problem in package and a regular shipment of about 20kg.

I am sorry but I just read your introduction now:

I joined APUG a couple of days ago and the first thread I read top to bottom was "Darkroom Portraits"... Sigh... now I pray even more to win the lottery...

I hope that one day I can be as wise and knowledgeable as all of you

Btw, I just made a 3 months subscription. I wish I could help more but I'm on minimum wage...

Mariana

P.S.- Sorry for my poor english.

So keeping things on track and take notice about your financial situation it's maybe a better idea to pick up a complete enlarger and acessoiries for (almost) free and sent it to you.
If you would like to contribute to the transport costs I will pick up a system which is complete and suitable for working with your Canon 35mm negatives.

Please feel free to e-mail or PM me.

best regards,

Robert

Just for giggles you might think about shipping an enlarger without the base board & make a board from plywood or MDF.

Now that is thinking, a lot of weight in the baseboard and it would be really easy to replace.

One problem ~ many solutions

To give you any idea about shipping costs in Europe (Netherlands - Portugal):
one package baseboard + transformer 5-10kg
one package column + color head and accesoires 10-20kg

Eur. 70,00 which is the same price which will costs a complete M605 enlarger.

Making here a new baseboard and feet on thick MDF will costs you in the DIY market Eur. 30,00 either so this is whishfull thinking either

It means that it can print a 6x6 frame at the largest. It will also print anything smaller (e.g. 24x36 mm).
